not sure what is wrong

Hi...I have had all kinds of medical tests and feel I have no answers and still am experiencing symptoms.  I guess my biggest one is fatigue.  I tell every Dr.  I am constantly fatigued and they make no comment.  I am an active woman and yet for the past few years this fatigue has worsened.  I come from a family of nappers so have chalked it up to that.  However, when teaching I usually fall asleep in the teachers room or even just put my head on my desk and sleep.  At least once or sometimes several times a day, I cannot keep my eyes open.  When I get tired my whole body is weak and often I have achy lymph nodes under my arms.  I always have an enlarged lymph node behind my right ear and it gets achy and the side of my head does when tired.  I have allergies and have been getting allergy shots.  I was getting frequent sinusitis but this is better since the allergy shots. I  am now on meds for my esophagus that appeared in a test to be irritated from acid reflex.  They also gave me antacids.  However, I do not seem to get frequent heartburn.  i do have a lump in the hollow of my throat, seems like something is stuck and is annoying.  My node on the right aches into my ear and makes my head feel tight and achy so I am seeing a neurologist.  I do have oesteoarthritis in my neck and back, I think do to sports injuries.  I do not go around complaining and do not feel I am a hypochondriac.  I just have an inner gut feeling that something is wrong inside.  My insides often feel off with various aches.  Sometimes my hips pain so bad at night, I cannot turn over.  I have seen a rheumatologist, nothing!   I am searching for answers.

Hello...if this was 10 years ago, you could have been describing myself! Have the docs considered Chronic Fatigue syndrome or Fibromyalgia? I know that some docs poo poo these disorders but they are very real. I would go to a reputable rheumatologist who specializes in this...I do have the fibromyalgia, I had extreme fatigue and pain in my joints. I also had what is called trigger points, just touching them sent me reeling in pain. I bet that the docs have run panels for lupus, RA and the whole other realm of autoimmune disorders by now (at least I hope so) If not, then that might be good to do first to make sure that you don't have any of these disorders. They can cause the symptoms that you describe. I have found that with fibro and Chronic fatigue that the immune system is a bit nuts, mine is very hyper...I have many, many allergies to meds and environmental as well. I also have autoimmune issues, specifically Hashimotos...is any of this sounding familiar??? Please don't let any doc call you nuts, it is easy for them to do so when they don't understand a disease process. Trust me, I have been through hell with the medical community but am blessed with an excellent team now. I hope that I have helped you...hugs, Sunny :)

Sunny,  Thank-you.  I did last year get a referral to a rheumotologist.  I waited months and all he did was have me bend over and move my arms.  he gave me an anti-depressant to relax me at night as he said my body was not relaxing when sleeping or some such thing.  i stopped taking it, it did nothing but put weight on and I really do not like to take too many drugs.  I am actually in the Canadian health system so referrals take sometimes up to a year.  I have an appointment tomorrow with a neurologist because of the lymph node in my neck and tightness and aching in the side of my head.  I have no idea what a neurologist treats and what symptoms to tell him.  The 2 things that bother me the most are the fatigue and a feeling something is stuck in the hollow of my throat.  Everything is turning up normal but my ANA was 160, I think...anyway elevated they said and sent me to the rheumotologist, nothing came of that.  Everything you say sounds like me.  I am at the point of thinking its all in my head and seeing a therapist but I have always tolerated pain well and not been someone into health issues.  Inside me I feel something is just not right.

Go with your gut feelings...I don't think you're nuts. I have had docs tell me exactly what they told you...anxiety, that it's in my head etc. I actually had one rheumy tell me that. I switched practices, I have no patience for people like that. It sounds like fibromyalgia, treatment with an antidepressent like Elavil (amitryptaline) is common for that to ensure the right sleep. If you are sleeping and wake up unrefreshed, then you know that your body is physically in that state as well...it essentially doesnt get the right kind of rest. Here is a link about fibromyalgia...I bet alot of your symptoms are there! http://www.fmnetnews.com/basics-symptoms.php

The neuro will try to understant your head pain..whether it is migrain, tension, or from another cause. It will be interesting to see what he does with you and says. Hopefully not "your nuts, take two aspirin and relax"

How is your primary doc with all of this? I hope that he or she is supportive, it is important to have a good relationship with your doc. It makes things that much worse when they don't listen or foo foo you.

I pray that you get relief and soon, at least answers would be good too huh? Sunny :)

Sunny,  I will check out the link.  My primary Dr.  has moved and I now have a new one.  That may be a good thing as when I asked my primary about CFS, she said all  working women are constantly tired and would only do tests if I persisted and then was happy to report nothing was significant.  My new primary seems to listen and one day when I came in with chest discomfort and a sore shoulder, I ended up staying the night in the hospital for an EKG, so at least she took me seriously.  I knew it was not my heart however.  I just seem to have various aches and pains but the fatigue interrupts everything!  Thank-you for listening and believing!  my best!  Angie
