Lexapro.  Day 13.  Ready to give up.

Jun 30, 2008 12:00AM - 2 comments

It seems as though the Lexapro has seriously elevated that anxiety.  I'm having to take a lot more xanex to cope with it than before I started it.  Is this a "normal" reaction to Lexapro at  this stage of the game?  So far I feel less like my "normal" self than I did before I started on it.  I've been really encouraged by the testamonials I've gotten from a lot of folks so I'm inclined to stay with it for a while but damm this has been one tough week...

I just saw this and HAD to respond....your doc should have told you, but all antidepressants can make anxiety worse, or even cause it if you didn't already have it.  Oftentimes, it will go away after about a month, but not always...you should talk to your doc about this...there are alternatives to help with the anxiety..I'm about ready to ask for one myself, so please mention it to whoever you see for the Lexapro.  Could be that they'll just keep you on it and hope it goes away on it's own, but it could be also, that he or she will try you on something totally different.  Is your anxiety a result of w/d?

Thanks Jacqui.  Thats a real help.  I was starting to ask myself that same question.  How is a "mood elevator" supposed to help me when I'm already at a hieghtened state emotionally.  But everything I've read on Lexapro seems to support it for GAD.  My anxiety at this point is really a result of long term PAWS.  I've been 100 percent OXY/Lortab free since Jan 16'th.  I've dropped all caffine and most processed sugars.  I've even given my evening glass of wine for now.  But I still battle anxiety/depression about 1 week a month.  It was tough but not like this.  Still.  If this has  chance of working...

...shrug...

This has been a roller coaster week.  I'll call him tomorrow but like you said he may want me to stay on it.  He insisted that I get a Xanex script when he put me on the Lexapro so I think he may have expected this.

Thanks again!
