You don't create a tumor, do you?

I just got a call from one of my sisters, whom I adore and love dearly.  Although she has a heart of gold, she can be a little insensitive and self-absorbed at times. As always, we had a one-way conversation: she bombarded me with stories about her personal life and issues, rambling on and on about her own problems, while I sat quietly, pretending to sound interested.
When she finally paused to inhale, I quietly whispered that I wasn't feeling well, hoping to end the conversation.
Rather than showing some empathy or a degree of understanding, she said, "you know something?  You created your own tumor.  It's all in your head.  I know it's psychosomatic."  I was too stunned to say anything, so instead of arguing with her, I simply told her that I had another line and hung up before she could respond.
Unfortunately, some of us do not have supportive or understanding family members, so what does one do?  As for me, I've decided to avoid self-centered people and end one-way relationships, where I'm always the giver without ever receiving much in return.  A relationship is a two-way street, as they say.
