June 30th, 2008... 1 hour later

Jun 30, 2008 05:27PM - 4 comments

Well, the heck with health insurance... kind of.  I made an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to talk and another appointment Thursday for a CT scan so by next Tuesday I should have some clue as to what is going on with me.  I applied with AIG insurance because they dont ask questions and offer a lot of coverage - although not compared to BCBS or others.  The only thing is that I need life insurance because I want to leave my family with something if something is wrong.  Regardless, I am having the test done this week... I will let things go from there.

What were the reasons you were turned down? I am so sorry that happened to you.  However, we do have the best healthcare system in the world according to many people.  We have to plan our lives now so that we always have coverage.  It is not always easy. I thought from your past posts that you had the health insurance in the bag.  You will need to plan another way of getting through this if you cannot get any insurance.

I was declined because back in February I applied with BCBS - March 1st they sent me my insurance card along with the packet and a letter saying my benefits had become effective as promised.  So I went to my doctor told him EVERYTHING I had been experiencing and he was a little concerned so 1st plan of action - blood tests for nutrient levels & I guess a blood count - everything supposedly came back normal but the pain and symptoms persisted - he then ordered a CT scan... well with in the second week of March BCBS sent me a letter stating that they had yet to receive a signed page about a 2004 colonoscopy... it was buried in the back of my 1000 pages of new-plan paperwork. I signed it, sent it and at the end of March I received a letter from them saying that they never received my letter and never started my coverage and they were returning my premium.  So what am I left with?  I am left with re-applying to insurance companies and having to disclose that 3 months ago my doctor recommended an abdominal CT scan - insurance companies (from what I just learned) hear CT scan and immediately think - possible cancer and said after I have my tests and have been found healthy I can re-apply.  But now I am left with March's bill OOP and future testing/diagnostics OOP.

if you have proof of the insurance welcoming you and effective dates and such you can make a complaint against them to the DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE ALSO KNOW AS THE INSURANCE COMMISIONER. it is possible that after you were approved they changed their minds after hearing about the need for a scan. they are trying to get out of covering you even though they had already welcomed you. I would call them and threaten them with the department of insurance and even say that you will put it on the news which will hurt their reputation and their sales. You will def get answers. But you must file with The dept of insurance and explain your story and they will lauch an investigation and if the ins comp show they are at fault they will have to provide coverage and they can be slapped with a fine for doing this to you if they dont comply.  i hope this helps and hope to hear good news from you soon.

Thank you so much - I will definitely push this further.  Although they do have a point that in the welcome kit it says "you are conditionally approved as of March 1st but we need the following paperwork..." - that was definitely my oversight.  My issue is that today I found out that they did receive the signed document, just not the page explaining why I signed it (page 1 of 2) - they have my signature on a page that says colonoscopy 2004, normal results!!! and they cancelled me because they didnt want to print out the unsigned page from their records.  They did not decline based on my tests I dont think - unless the clinic I went to disclosed the procedures to them because they knew I was waiting on BCBS - maybe a report was sent to them - but the fact still remains, they cancelled my coverage based on a piece of useless paper - I think I might still have a case with that... we'll see.
