Does anyone know how to get into a lock w/o key?

Jul 01, 2008 03:49PM - 11 comments

My dear girls locked my bathroom and it has all my things in there and I need to get in there. Is there any way of picking the lock or anything short of calling a locksmith? I don't have the key lost it:) and I did not have a chance to clean the bathroom before they locked it so any suggestions appreciated. I really hope I do not have to call a lock smith.

You may hacksaw a bathroom lock off and replace the whole thing more cheaply than you can have a locksmith open it for you - first make sure it is a keyed lock - most passage sets are not keyed - if it is locked from the inside and is a passage set - there will be a toothpick size hole in the lock face - stick a nail or anything that will fit and not break in the hole and the lock will pop open........good luck - you dont have a window, do you ?

and ifit doesn't have the hole in the front..it should have 2 screws that you hopefully can just unscrew..

If it is a keyed lock, the screws would be on the inside of the bathroom.....chances are a bathroom knob wouldn't be keyed, there should be the hole you can stick a hairpin or a nail into. The window sounds like a good idea too...good luck!

Out of luck no window and it is a key lock like a front door would have. I have all the other locks with the kind you can stick a nail or something in and it will pop open but for some reason MEN! my husband put a lock there just like our front door has. It is impossible to pick at least for me someone who does know what they are doing, I will have to try the hack saw there is no screws either on my side anyways. Sad I need my things:( I do thank you all for your help:)

Sometimes a sharp knife can move the latch a little at a time while you are putting pressure on the door so the latch doesn't spring back.

It won't work if we are talking about a deadbolt.

No deadbolt just a regular key lock. I will try this thanks goingtomakeit and everyone else too:)
I called my huband and he says call the locksmith so they want 75.00 to open the door WOW. I should have gotten in that business. Maybe your tips will help me save 75.00 thanks:)

Well I had to get the locksmith @ 50 bucks he did give a 25 dollar discount he says:)
I was watching you tube on how to pick a lock or bump a lock and was so adamant about picking the darn thing so I did get it picked only after the locksmith had come and gone, Ha!
It really wasn't that hard once you understand the mechanics of the lock. If my stubborn husband would have waited we would still have that 50 bucks:)

My husband wanted to use the hack saw but I wouldn't let him, We just got moved into our new hoe a couple months ago so I did not want it torn up.

You could try a thin credit card, push it into the space between the doo and the jamb from below the where the lock latches.  Push it in as far as you can and slowly move the card upwards with the back of the card angled upwards at about a 45 degree angle.  If you can slip the card behind where the latch goes into the jamb you can open the door.
Dont ask  LOL!!....
