Linus is not out of the woods yet

Jul 02, 2008 08:49PM - 3 comments

So I talked to the vet today about Linus.  I called because I thought that Linus was throwing his food up again but it turned out to be diarrea (sp?).  He has had this since we brought him home on Sunday.  We got his liver biopsy results back today as well and thank goodness he does not have cancer.  So we can rule that out as well as the "fatty liver".  He still has liver disease but it is called cholangio hepatitis, at least that's what we think.  He is still eating like nobody's business and getting into trouble when he feels like it.  But we are not out of the woods yet because he has scrosis (sp?).  This is where part of his liver is dead and has been replaced by scar tissue.  According to the vet this is not a good thing.  So right now we have to treat the inflamed liver as an infection.  Antibiotics and other medicines.  If the liver stays inflamed than we will have to treat with steroids.  The vet also said that he may be on meds for the rest of his life.
So we go for blood tests next week to see if any of the high levels have gone down with treatment and if not than we will go from there.  So for now we just cont. the meds, give him pumpkin pie filling mixed with food for the diarrea, and just keep giving him all our love and attention.

Linus is a handsome fellow.  I'm sorry that the news wasn't all good, but happy that it's a lot better than it could have been.

My Fluffy is on Tylan for his inflammatory bowel disease, thyroid meds, and occasionally steroids for itching or if is stomach lining gets too inflamed and he starts to have loose stools again.  He will have to be on meds for the rest of his life; he's kind of an old fellow at almost 14.

Pumpking pie filling!?!  I'd never heard of that before.  I had to give Fluffy psyllium powder mixed with baby food while he was going through all sorts of tests.  Does Linus mind it?

I hope his blood levels are much better next week.  I think love and attention are good medicine, as are continued prayers and well wishes from friends.  I think Fluffy would even send him a get well meow if his paws weren't too big for the keyboard, ha ha!

Thanks Kathy!  Linus likes the pumpkin pie filling.  I don't think he even notices it because he eats like he is starving.  Mind you I now feed him 3 times a day, Little Begger!!!!!
