July 5th

Jul 05, 2008 11:22PM - 8 comments

Today was a much better day than yesterday, although it took me awhile to get going.   The cats got me up at 0630, when I'm usually upp at 0500. Well, anyway I did my normal routine, which you know by now if you've read any of my journals, got the cats fed and puttered around a bit and before I knew it, it was 1230. I spent the afternoon relaxing in front of the television allowing my mind to melt with all the mindless dribble they put out nowadays. But, I was good to myself with my diet, well nutitious and well-balanced and took all of my medications, as prescribed. Other than my back still bothering me, I'd say today was a wonderful day. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Your cats let you sleep that late?  There's nothing like cats or dogs to make us get up no matter how we feel.  How can anyone say "no" to an 80 lb dog requesting to go outside, especially if she is standing right on me and giving me a second belly button  = )

Hope your weekend is going well.

Michael,

So glad to hear that today is a better day.  I think you have the same thoughts as I, meaning always looking for the better day...the next day LOL.  I have battled depression off and on over the years and I have been one of those people who feel better then stop my meds.  (heading back to the doc tomorrow).  I really shouldn't do that I know and its awlful that I do, IM A NURSE of all things.  Very good nurse, but a horrible patient.  Being a nurse its very hard for me to talk about my own problems and with the things I've been through it's very difficult to talk to my family.  My mom understands my depression, she has manic depression with bipolar tendencies herself.  However, I also know I don't tell her everything because she has a hard time dealing with those types of things.  I love her so much though, because I can say "I'm just so tired of everything (giving her no real reason) and she understands.  Yes, I have noticed that you have a routine that you do (from your journals).  I must say I like that.  I think before today is over, I'm going to make myself up something a little similiar...hope ya don't mind that I borrow that from you, but I think if I can get myself to follow it...I may feel at least a bit productive by the end of the day.  I have such a hard time finding any get up and go.  By the way, what does Namaste mean?

by Jikan, Jul 06, 2008 01:54PM
The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama" means bow, "as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."
It's a form of greeting used primarily in Indian culture is is prevalent in the practive of yoga.
To perform Namaste, we place the hands together at the heart charka, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especially deep form of respect. Although in the West the word "Namaste" is usually spoken in conjunction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namaste, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing.
I use it as expression to signify that I bow to the reader in respect to them, knowing that as one we suffer the same pains and experience the same pleasures, but at different times and to different extents.
In essence, we are one.
Hope that explains it well enough.

Michael

Jikan,

Thanks for explaining that. I was assuming it was a word for hello and wasn't sure where it was originating from.  I'm so glad that you took the time to share it's because thats actually a very beautiful gesture and is quite fascinating to me. Thanks again!

Namaste,

No problem. I enjoy educating or, if you like, beinging awareness to people of some of the Eastern cultures and traditions, which are oftentimes misunderstood.
