Right here goes, finally got a phsyc to evaulate my son. Yipee, you might think but no.
While I'm not due to get the official report till Monday the 14th of July, the phsyc called me to ask a few more q's about him and after wards I chanced my arm and asked while I understand the report wasn't completed what she thought would be the out come.
I'm so mad I can actually hardly type what she said, anyway she said that to her mind he did not have a ASD, and it more likely that he is 'just slow', that he's understanding is more like a 2/3 yr old than a 5 yr old.
She said because he is affectionate he cannot have autism.
I'm fuming, I'm so mad!
He will get no help in school apart from the phsyc is going to give his teacher a list of things that might help. The teacher is not going to take heed cause she doesn't have to and he is going to be left behind. I can't afford private school, so I'm left feeling hopless.

That is BS... It's sad how many misconceptions and myths that psychos and various professionals still believe...

Myths...
autistic people can't have a sense of humor
autistic people lack imagination
can't be affectionate
can't be social
bad parenting causes autism
I'm sure I can think of and list quite a few more myths and misconceptions... It's time to either educate that psycho or find a new one...

I hope that things get better and good luck fighting.

Maybe I'm coming in late on the game here - because I don't know any of your son's specifics.

Is it possible that he IS just "slower" to develop?  Half of the people in the world have below average intelligence,  and half have above average.  (I guess a few of the people are dead on average).

What do you see in his behavior and learning style that indicates ASD?
