I'm so aggravated

Jul 11, 2008 11:12AM - 3 comments

Yesterday I thought my GI was going to start me on treatments, but instead she is referring me to another doc.  He does not have an appointment until September and I have been focused on learning all I can, and I was emotionally ready to start my treatments.  I came home and pouted for a while.  This morning I called my GI and left a message about having her start my treatments and slide into an appointment in September with the other doc or I have already made an appointment with another doctor in two weeks.  I told her if I had know she was going to refer me, I would have made the appointment weeks ago.  I guess she wanted to go over the results of the liver biopsy, but because of this website, I was well on my way to understanding and beyond.  Maybe I am more proactive than other patients because I have no patience!  lol   Well, now I'm back to waiting again.  I realize that it is a slowly progressing disease, but I've had it for thirty-two years-enough.  I want to try to get rid of it, not getting any younger!

I wanted a second opinion and the wait for the that appt was two months, so i called my primary doctor and she got me an appt, within a week,  Perhaps you can try that.  I am sure he can fit you in before sept.  and besides i see the nurse practioner for my tx and i only see the gi every couple of months.

good luck

Well, I have been a busy woman this morning.  My GI spoke to the referring dr, but he could only move up the appointment two weeks, so I found another doctor who works with a nurse practitioner and I'm in in two weeks.  I'm having my GI fax my records over to them ASAP, so I can get started.  This dr has a very good reputation with the Health Department of Communicable Diseases, so I feel confident I am doing the right thing.  I tried to talk my GI into starting treatments, but she felt she hasn't been dealing with the latest studies, etc.  So, I guess I will be getting a second opinion, a second GI, and a new nurse practitioner!

Good for you!  I am going to get back into full throttle mode myself...also impatient, also 32+ years.  I was ready to start, and so was my hep specialist. We'll see how things turn out with the insurance probs, and clinical trial stuff. All things in God's time, not mine. It's worked so far, so who am I to complain?  We may end up starting at the same time, but I hope for your peace of mind, yours is sooner!  :-)
