I was browsing and was reading all these articles about PM Dr's having their DEA license taken away and thought to myself what would I do if that happened? I have a wonderful PM and don't know or want to find out what I would do with out him. If I had to go out looking for another one I would really be lost and upset. When we as pain Pt's find a PM that is willing to treat us not only medication wise but willing to give us all the options available to us we certainly do not want to lose them.
How do you feel about your Pm and have you told him/her how much you appreciate them. I know we hire them and pay them but we all know that is not all that is involved with a PM Dr.
I usually bring my Dr a plate of homemade cookies or I send lunch to the office via pizza hut etc. I always give the staff and the Dr nice gifts at Christmas too. Last year I got the ladies (4 in all) a gift basket from bath and body and a red lobster gift certificate and the Dr well he collects unusual ties so I always have fun getting him something:)
I believe they show us compassion and understanding where we failed to find it before we found them so we should show and verbalize our appreciation. How many Pm's did you have to go through before you found the one who treats you with kindness caring and compassion and knows your in pain and does what they can to help you have a life beyond the pain? I know we have a right to pain control but that right is null and void if were not getting it and are stuck hurting and can't find a PM that cares enough about us to listen to us and treat us and to keep up with all the new developments on pain control. When you really think about it a good PM Dr puts themselves and their families on the line just to treat us pain Pt's because of all the people who use them to break the law and obtain these meds illegally the Dr really does not know if he/she is treating someone like that , someone who sells their meds or abuses them so they essentially put themselves on the line for our benefit and our right to having pain control. My previous PM in Ala is being sued and her DEA license threatened because she was treating someone who sold their meds to a teenager and the teen died so she is being pulled into court and her DEA license have been suspended until the outcome. Now this Dr, she is wonderful and is a single new mom and has always treated everyone respectfully and tried very hard to meet their pain needs without breaking any laws. When I first moved to Fl she was sending me my prescriptions on her own time so I would have meds until I found a suitable PM here. She did this for three months and even checked thoroughly to make sure either of us was not breaking any laws doing this. It angers me that our Pm's are being used and having their welfare and their families welfare threatened because of the people who abuse their good intentions and compassion for real pain Pt's.
I am sorry for the rant but I just wanted to make a point, we should remember our Pm's do not have to treat us and they do it because they are good decent human beings who knows there are people in pain and need them. As we all are aware a lot of Pm's went out of business because of fear of losing their license and even freedom. Our Dr's and their families depend on us just as we depend on our Dr's. We depend on them for help with our pain and they in turn depend on us to be honest and forthright and to keep our promises that we take our meds as prescribed and not sell it and abuse it in any way to get them in hot water with the DEA and the law. Have you told your Pm Dr lately how much you appreciate them and their efforts to help you live a life pain free as possible?
Thanks for reading my ranting and raving :+)
