My Story

Jul 13, 2008 05:16PM - 0 comments

A few people have asked my to post my story so here it goes. :)

When I look back I think I had MS 4 years before being diagnosed.  After I had my first son in 2000 I went through a complete internal makeover.  I was a new mom, trying to buy a house and still learning to be a good wife  while working a full time job.  Out of no where I started getting very tired alot and just dropped weight, I was averaging about 7 lbs a week.  I kept going to the doctor and she just said it was stress and maybe I should start a work out schedule, like how are you suppose to work out when you are tired. :)  She put me on anti depressants and sent me on my way.
In December of 2004 I was helping some ladies in our office load a truck full of mailers.  I am in the insurance industry and have been for 13 years.  After helping them I went back to my desk and got VERY hot, lightheaded and collapsed.  They called 911 and after some IV fluids everything was fine.  Today I believe it may have been a flare up from the heat.  Of course that started a series of test.  My weight got to unhealthy low and I just got more and more tired.  I got home one night to relax and took a very hot bath, (I love hot baths).  When I got out of the bath my feet and hands had gone numb.  After several weeks more and more of my body started going numb until my whole body was.  My PCP ordered every blood test imaginable and nothing was showing up except my white cells were off.  Finally, after 3 months and still no answers I was sent for an MRI and was informed there were 4 lesions on my brain and 3 on my spine.  Several people asked about my hands and feet being permanant damage and it got me thinking.  There hasn't been 1 day since that hot bath that they have not been numb, when I run fever or get really hot they get worse but they are always that way.
I am seeing a MS specialist where I live and I have alot of faith in her.  She never tells me what I want to hear but she is the doctor right. :)
After being dx'd April 2005 I started Copaxone immediatly.
Everything had been going great and I was working full time and was running my own insurance agency in the evenings and weekends however, this past month I started having problems keeping up with everything.  I now only have my insurance agency and work it part time while I am watching my boys this summer.  My mom just left due to a flare up that started on July 1 and am still getting over.  Today has been a good day.  I still have a headache which I am not sure if it is from the Prednisone I was on for 3 days (4K mg), or if it is part of the flare up.
I still have a ton to learn and I am glad I have found you guys.
