2 Docs down, 3 to go!

Jul 16, 2008 10:03AM - 6 comments

This has definitely been my year for doctors!!  I will feel like I have had a pretty good body check when I am done. I met with my new gyn for the 2nd opinion on Tuesday.  He looked over the ultrasounds and did a physical exam too. He said my uterus is the size of a 3 month pregnancy but having had 5 full term pregnancies and adenomyosis, that is fairly normal and he isn't concerned. It is however; the cause of my bladder problems as it is pressing on the bladder. He said it should shrink once I am in total menopause and the adenomyosis will go away. I have some simple cysts and one cyst in the uterine wall. The one in the uterine wall, he will keep an eye on.  But my endometrial stripe is thickened at 13mm, so he did an endometrial biopsy. I had one a year ago and it was extremely painful, so needless to say, I wasn't thrilled, especially because I didn't know he would do it and I am still recovering from my other surgery. So, am hoping to get back negative results from that. Should hear by next week.

Yesterday, I went to my surgeon and he said my incision is healing great.  However, he said I should be eating better and he wants me to see my gastro doctor for that, if it doesn't get better soon. I think that my intestines just need more time. I have never been a big eater and I think I need to take it slowly.  I have also been having some leg cramping, like a nagging feeling in my legs that have been keeping me up at night. Not sure what that is.

At the end of the month, I see the pulmonologist, the dermatologist - because I have a suspicious spot on my chest, and back to my primary, about my blood work etc. The only thing she told me in the hospital was that my hemoglobin was at 8. So I think that is one reason I am still so tired.

Like I said, pretty good body check when I get done LOL

Need to get it all out of the way before October 4th (the wedding) and the following honeymooon week! I sure do want to enjoy that :)

Colleen, I can't imagine dealing with all the "body work" (to keep the car theme going) you need.  I am so impressed at your strength and perseverence as you navigate this nightmare.  I suffered from the leg cramps after many of my surgeries.  You need to take a magnesium supplement and increase your intake of sodium and potassium.   While you work on that put some heat on your legs to help.  I am thinking of you and sending you my love and shoulder for whenever you need it.

Love,
Trudie

Thank you TC for your prayers and yes, I feel like I have had an almost complete body overhaul, lol. At least I will know that so many of my body parts are healthy!
and Trudie, you are always a lifesaver.  Thank you for telling me that you suffered from leg cramps also. I thought it might be due to some kind of supplement I needed. I know in the hospital my potassium was really low. Thank you! I am taking magnesium already and trying to eat bananas but maybe I need to take a potassium suplement too? You have my love and a shoulder to lean on too. Thank you both so much!
I love you guys,
Colleen

Potato chips really helped me!  Here are some others.  I'm nagging you now since your doctor is trying to get you to eat - all in love.

All of the following foods have potassium values per one cup serving greater than 400 milligrams, and many approach 700 milligrams. Root vegetables including potatoes, beets, parsnips, turnips, and rutabagas are the highest in potassium, and are delicious in roasts: a single baked potato with skin has 700 milligrams of potassium. Melons, peaches, avocados, tomatoes, and bananas are all high in potassium as well, and can be eaten raw, mixed in fruit salads, and included in a variety of dishes. In addition, squash, lentils, and beans have a high potassium content: try roasting squash, or using beans and lentils in a healthy soup. In addition to having high calcium levels, fish and white meat also have high potassium levels along with whole milk, yogurt, and buttermilk. Finally, raw nuts also have a great deal of dietary potassium, usually packing 200 milligrams or more per ounce, and one tablespoon of molasses has almost 300 milligrams.

Love ya,
Trudie
