I've received numerous notes and pm's today and I can't answer everyone right now.
But, I thank you .
Nick is going to be in the hospital for about a week
He started running a fever early today and I took him to the hospital.
They started him on oxygen .right away, as he was barley able to breathe.
His fever went up to 103 and they got it down to 102 tonight, BP is 106/52. not too bad.
He has an infection somewhere. As of tonight , they are giving him
his factor VIII, a platelet Transfusion, Red blood cells , Plasma , antibiotics
Ultra sound showed only pockets of fluid all over(never heard of that) they can't drain. They think
he has something in the behind his stomach , Kidneys or Intestines causing the distention
They will do a CT scan when he can hold his breath. This should show what the heck is going on.
In addition he is breathing with one lung,the other is filled with fluid.
So tomorrow they will stick a needle in his upper rib cage, ultra sound guided
and drain it.
Tomorrow the TP doctor , his hemo doctor, and HCV doctor will all get together
and decide what else to do for him.
Nick was resting when I left him , still with the oxygen, and I will be back up there
as soon as they will let me tomorrow.
Nicks MELD is at 29 as of today.

I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for this update. No need to write more now; but I will catch up with you soon. At least he is in good hands right now… it might even give you a little break for a few days. So sorry to hear this is happening; I hope to hear more as soon as news is available and you feel up to it. My best to both of you—

Thank you Bill, I don't think it will give me a break, I will be with him 24/7 if they let me.
I want to be with hm, I did not want to leave him ..they told me to come back in the morning:(

Ditto Elaine, not expecting a reply but just to let you know I've been on the front deck looking at the moon - that same big ole moon that is above us all and prayed for Nick and you tonight. Nice to know the 3 top guys are putting their heads together; you'll be in my thoughts tomorrow.. with love..

I love you my friend and would do anything possible to help you and Nick - for today though all we can do is pray, hard and fervently and so that is what i will do.

I've been thinking of you and Nick all day, please know that I am sending you positive thoughts throughout EVERY day until this has totally resolved itself and Nick has his new liver.
If Nick still has his appendix, make sure they check on that. The infection sounds somewhat familiar, but of course, I have no idea.
Be kind to yourself while holding your vigilance, it's going to difficult but try and think of your own needs also, Nick's going to need you for the long haul.

I don't know how long I will be abel to stay online here at the hospital.
Nick's lung was drained yesterdayclose two 2 liters of fluid mixed with blood. He was doing ok as of late last night.
They left the tube in his back.
Today I came in around 6:00 and there were 3 peple standing over him,
He was sitting up trying to breath, they said Nick's oxygen level went to around 79
and instead of the tube throught the nose, they wanted him to wear the mask. NIck said NO
and took it off. So now they have the tube back in his nose oxygen up high. Oxygen level 88-89
He is getting Albumin every 6 hours and platelets, factor VIII .
They told me, his lung has filled up with fluid again and will need draining again
He is very sick today, I woiuld say far worse than I've seen him.
They said he was in fragile but stable condition today.

Hang in there,Just know that they are doing everything the can to make him better.I had my lung tapped and they took out a liter and a half.I believe it helped move me up on the list.My prayers go out to both of you.

Elaine, god is with you in your time of need. Whatever happens nick is in god's hands, stay optimistic - he could get a liver at any time. I'm so sorry good people like you and Nick have to suffer like this. We are all praying for nick and hope that you stay strong for your son through this. Godspeed to both of you, hang in there!
I do not mean this to sound pessimistic (and I am not at all pessimistic about Nick) but I believe that some of you may not realize that generally surgeons are reluctant to transplant a patient with an active infection. So I assume that it's likely that Nick's infection would need to resolve before he would be considered for transplantation. Of course, I could be wrong about this but that is my understanding. Mike
