I went to the specialist .....

Jul 18, 2008 09:16PM - 1 comments

I went to see the specialist and i am very confused and don't know what to do or feel. I was told that this Dr was abrupt but was the best in this field so i went to him. I walked  in  with all my files from my GP and he only skimmed over them. He asked me all these questions (which answers were in the files) and then said he is not interested in what the ultrasound showed as it does not give a true outline of what is inside the uterus. He wants to have a look for himself (i assume using a camera?) and if there is any retained products suction them out and take it from there. Take it from there - what does that mean? What about this blood vessel thing?

When I went to my GP on Thursday after Wednesday's ultrasound and blood test and she said that HCG levels are normal  and ultrasound found no retained products but what looks likes a burst blood vessel that will need to be cortorized (burnt). She then referred me to the specialist to have this addressed - now he's saying he's not interested about that outcome and wants to look himself.

I am supposed to go into hospital on Wednesday with an expected recovery time of two days. I'm really scared and don't know what to think, feel or do. The past two days i have had only a few spots of blood and don't know if i really want to go for this procedure. I have tried to contact my GP but with no success. I really want this to be over.

I think although his attitude was not great he has the right plan - not to just trust what the ultrasound shows and to see for himself means you can be sure he will get to the bottom of everything and give you the best chance of a good outcome.... He is a specialist and will know what he is looking for and what he needs to see or do.... Most GP's tend to err on the side of caution -  most specialisits will look at worst  case scenatio and work from there so they will cover more bases -  at least a good specialist - I think you should look at it as a positive that he wants to be sure what he is dealing with not blindly follow the ultrasound which is not ever going to show everything.

One thing I have learned is the better the specialist the better the surgeon the worse their patient communication skills and bedside manner.... try to look past his attitude and see that he is wanting to see the full picture and not a shadow of one :)

best of luck
xx
