Last night, Sean and I were talking about the baby... what the plan was for going to the hospital, coming home, visitors, time off work, etc. It was stuff we'd both been thinking and worrying about, but finally talked to each other about.
There are only a couple things we still need to do before the baby comes: pack the hospital bag, set-up the changing station, and a couple minor repairs to the floor (since we had ripped out the carpet a while ago).
The plan is to stay home as long as possible before going to the hospital for delivery. We will welcome visitors after the baby is born, and hope to go home as soon as possible - I haven't checked with the dr yet as to when that may be. Once we're home, Sean will be off work until my mom can come down. We are so appreciative to have her for up to 2 weeks to help with everything while we adjust with the baby. I plan to be on leave for a total of 7 weeks - which will put me back to work on Nov 1st, if I'm close to my due date. Anyone is welcome to visit during that time, just give us a heads up.
But the really fun part of the discussion was when Sean said he didn't know how to change a diaper. So... I got a baby doll and a diaper and gave a little lesson. I'm not sure which was my favorite part... when he pretended to be in such a hurry to dispose of the diaper that he would have flung the contents all over the floor... the look of bewilderment of how to put the clothes on/off without dislocating a joint... or the shock on his face when I told him, "Yes, you really are suppossed to hold the baby's ankles up in order to wipe the butt". He's definately in that "I'm going to break it" thinking - but it's so sweet to watch him try to hold the doll correctly.
