Just curious...I agree with most of your journal posts of what you say.  Is your computer in a closed off room or does he have his own?

I have a almost 4 yr old and a 9 mos old.  My DD is behind the preschool kids in her class because we don't allow her on the computer....We are moving the computer out of the office and into the family room.  We do not want the computer behind closed doors.  And we will only have one computer in the house....in a room where everyone can have access.

We do eat together - No TV....we have weekly movie night, and board game night...and all our activities are to parks, beaches....lots of nature outings.

Of course my DD is only 4 so I know as she gets older it will be harder to keep her involved with family night....but she loves it and we can't start anything unless both mom and dad are there and ready....
She's such a good kid.

for dinner we eat:   together
for fun we do things:    games, baking, sport activities
my child is allowed to use the phone:    with permission.
my child is allowed to:   play outside but i have to know where he is at all times
my child can watch rated___ movies:   we decide each movie individually
my child can get on the computer:   with my permission and only the sites i feel is appropriate.

We ask nightly about homework and help them if needed.  We talk with their teachers frequently.  At least bi-weekly
sometimes more often.   This is either by phone, email or in person.
Both kids are allowed to spend some time alone in their room occassionally.   We talk to them daily and know what
is going on in their lives.

for dinner we eat:   together in the kitchen with my husband entertaining as usual and the kids talking about whatever they feel like talking about...
for fun we do things:  go to the movies, play board games, play card games, watch movies together, go on field trips together, go to the beach (usually my husband and the kids as I'm not a beach person), eat junk food, go to the mall...
my child is allowed to use the phone: With permission, but we are not big phone users
my child is allowed to:  Play outside if there is mre than one of them going. They have to stay on our street and if I walk outside I have to be able to see them. Unless they ask permission to go to the neighbors house to play then they have to check in every 30 mins or so...
my child can watch rated___ movies:  PG movies and if my husband and I watch it first and believe its appropriate a PG13 movie. Of course they watch Pirates of Carribean, Spiderman, those kind of movies, but no movies with crude or sexual humor. Too inappropriate in my opinion... My youngest are 10 and 11... Our 18 yr old has to make those decisions for himself, and our 14yr old can watch most but not all PG13 movies. We still have to approve them...
my child can get on the computer:  with permission only and only for 30 - 45 min incriments at a time and will have mom and dad peering over the shoulder unexpectedly. The younger kids are only interested in cartoon sites anyway...

We don't let tem hide in their rooms for hours except the 18 yr old. The kids are homeschooled so several hours are doing school work. We have field trips often and co-ops weekly. We have bbq's almost weekly with different friends, family time several times a week if not daily. The kids are always begging to play games... Sometimes my husband begs them more than they beg. We have reading time daily along with cleaning time weekly... Some weeks we are diligent in schedules others we are fly by the wind...

My child has sleepovers: rarely. If so it is a close family friend and never somewhere I do not know the parents very, very well. They don't need to spend the night with neighbors if they see eachother almost everyday. Sleepovers are over rated. They may have certain friends spend the night occasionally which is more often than them going to others houses.

My child goes to the mall/movies: never by themselves. Either myself or my husband is there. Sometimes we let the girls walk around alone, but we are always in the mall and never far away... Thats for the 14 yr old.... SHe hasn't asked to go to the movies alone yet... Maybe since she knows the answer!

our computer is in my room.  he is a very honest kid and knows to ask before going to any new sites.

deanne my son started the computer in day care at 3 and is a guru compared to me! lol.

my son is 10 and wants to do his own thing more and more lately.  at his dads he gets away with that.  he gets away with much more than i care for.  he eats in his room at times with the tv alone. i cry over those things .  i refuse to give in to what is easier!

My family consists of my son and me, and sometimes during the week my sister and my boyfriend.

For dinner we eat: together in the kitchen.

For fun we do things: together, like play with the dogs, walk around the neighborhood, go to taekwondo lessons, go to the park, go to or watch movies, play board games, color pictures in coloring books, read stories, go to Grandma's house, or build blanket tents in the living room.

My child is allowed to use the phone: when I'm on the phone with someone he can talk to, like my mom or a close friend of mine, or when his father decides to call him once every blue moon. When he's on the phone, I put his conversations on speaker phone so I can hear what the other person is telling him, *especially* his father.

My child is allowed to: play outside in the carport by himself or in the fenced front yard with the dogs when the gate is closed. Otherwise I have to be with him outside at all times.

My child can watch rated___ movies: G and PG, but I have to either see the movie first or watch it with him if it's not G-rated. I also don't watch TV, ever. Trevor and I just watch movies, and everything he watches is something that I've monitored.

My child can get on the computer: I don't have a computer; I'm too financially challenged, lol! If I had a computer, he'd have those little kid software games to play.

Each day when I pick him up from school, I look over his assignments that have been left in his cubby and I ask his teachers how his behavior was for the day. If I get a bad behavior report, he loses a priviledge for the night, and if I notice his assignments are lacking in progress, I talk with his teachers and work with him at home.
