My Doctor's Appointment Earlier Today...

Jul 21, 2008 01:47PM - 0 comments

I went to the doctor's this morning--the DO who had originally seen me in early June (whom I stopped going to for a few weeks so I could see an MD that turned out to be useless). She was very helpful, albeit still new to the whole field of "thyroid diseases". She recommended I get my foot in the door at any endocrinologist's office possible, and even though I attempted to coerce her into ordering blood tests for TSH, fT3, fT4, reverse T3, TPOab/TGab again, TSI, and TRab, she didn't know what TSI or TRab was and said that she wanted to look into this before requesting a test whose results she wouldn't know how to interpret. Her honesty was admirable, but painful, too, because this may require another trip to have more bodily fluids (read: blood) sucked from me.

She ordered a few pituitary hormone tests, and TSH. I wish I paid more attention to the script, but I know she ordered prolactin and estrogen, for sure. I'm not sure about the rest. She briefly entertained the idea that my symptoms were caused by stress, but I think this was dismissed when she asked about whether or not I've had problems with my eyesight and I explained that in two years, my eyes went from -2.00/-2.00 (R/L) to -2.75/-3.00...and it's only been 2 years since my last eye exam. Typically, my eyes have only changed (the last three or four times, anyway) by about -0.25 in each eye over the course of four years, not -0.75 or -1.00! I also have been occasionally seeing little black spots swimming across my vision, but I don't know if this is just some dirt or bacteria on my contact lenses. My optometrist did comment that my prescription change was fairly significant--she was surprised and mildly worried that it would change so drastically--which set off a bell in my head.

The doctor also ordered an MRI of my pituitary gland, which I'll hopefully have done soon (more time taken away from working...*sigh*). I'm hopeful that I'll actually be treated for whatever I have sometime in the near future, though!

I noticed that my tremors are worse when I'm on Provigil (400mg at the moment!), but it's not absent when I'm not taking Provigil...and I've been taking Provigil for almost a year now and the tremors didn't start occurring until early April. I also have unhappily started sprouting more hairs above my lip--nothing drastic, but DEFINITELY noticeable to me and it's driving me crazy. I'm also continuing to have gastrointestinal problems (I'll spare you all the details), heat intolerance, wavering appetite half the time/feeling famished the rest of the time, and swollen joints.

I really hope I can get an appointment with an endocrinologist soon.....
