I'll keep this one brief. Appreciate if you could post a brief note of support. My mother is about to undergo laparoscopic gallbladder surgery in a less than a week. Things have been difficult for us as a family, my aunt recently having acquired diabetes and myself being physically homebound (and wishing I could provide more in person support to my mother during this time) from advanced tardive dystonia but we are all working together and uniting on this. I know that sometimes it is hard times that bring people together. I also know that procedure is safe but as for anyone undergoing an operation its unpleasant to cope with and they need support. She has the help she needs to keep safe for the week long recovery period thankfully and we are all doing our share to be a part of this. So I know now that whatever kindness and support that was given to me throughout my life time recovery its time to give back. I am reflecting on this and hope you could post a note that she would appreciate as well. Thanks..

I had my gallbladder removed the old fashioned way when I was 27 years old and it was a very debilitating and painful experience particularly the adhesions I developed subsequent to the surgery.  The new method via laproscopic surgery is absolutely fantastic - several people I know have undergone this surgery in recent years and the recovery is almost miraculous.  Your mother will not know herself once the horrible symptoms accompanying gallbladder disease are gone and from what my friends have told me, it is a virtual pain free surgery.  The important factor is to ensure she follows her surgeons instructions regarding the week of rest she needs after the surgery and to ensure she does not have to lift anything for about 6 weeks after the surgery .   There are very rarely complications with this new approach to gallbladder surgery and the almost immediate relief from the dreadful symptoms of gallbladder disease is fantastic so I have been told.  Your mum can go into surgery knowing she will be thrilled with the outcome.

Thanks. Really appreciated. At this point she was informed by her doctor that she had gallstones and it was best that she not wait so that it progressed and this form of surgery would be an option now but not if she let time progress. I know that she made the right decision now and its welcome news to understand it further.

I hope/pray for wisdom for those taking care of your Mother & doing the surgery and for your Mother to have a safe/speedy recovery.  Also that she will follow instructions so there are no set backs.

I had gallbladder surgery way back before it was the easy thing to do. No matter the procedure you are still parting with an organ for forever and ever. And your still being put to sleep!  I will lift you and your mom up in prayer. Hugs!

Dear ILADVOCATE,
First, my gramma had hers out the old fashion way when she was about 78 years old. I had mine out laproscpicly about ten years ago after having several bouts and didn't know what it was. It was emergency surgery in another city at a Wedding I did not get to attend. I felt so good afterwards. My oldest had a horrible attack at her grandfather's funeral and they said it was her gallbladder, being in another city we went home and to her doctor, she was 19. She has it laproscopicly and her gallbladder, she was born with it not working. Our youngest a week after having her wedding, yep, had emergency gallbladder surgery.  Yes laproscopicly...or however you spell it.
The only thing the oldest and I have as a side effect from having it done is we have to watch how many greens or greasy stuff we can eat, the liver has a hard time processing them. Our youngest has not experienced any side effect and eats anything.
To your Mom, I pray that the doctors have wisdom, that the Lord provide His angels to protect and heal you. Amen. You must be a wonderful Mom, because you have a wonderful son. Get well soon and you can write me a private note if need be to ask questions.

Yes, no lifting!  That means pushing a vacuum, filling the dishwasher, lifting laundry, pulling it out of the washer. And be careful sitting in soft chairs and sofas trying to get up uses tummy muscles. Good luck...zzzmykids

I had mine out 2 yrs ago. Had no idea I was so full of stones that the surgeon said he lost count! I had 2 attacks in a week and that was it, out it came. I spent one night in hospital came home the next day and made dinner for my family, including my in laws who were visiting from New Zealand. The next week I was back working as a hairdresser. My prayers are with your mother and your entire family.God Bless

I had that surgery in 91,,it was a fairly easy recovery,,only lasting side effect is most people find a food or two they cant tolerate post op,,(like forevr) I cant eat bacon or high nitrate foods, good for me to not eat anyways.

no lifting is correct. vaccume is bad..no heat.rest lots of it. make sure she doesnt get constipated,,narcotic pain meds will do that ...ask dr for stool softner advice if that happens.

your a good person. let us know how all goes.

I will say prayers for a safe and successful surgery for your mother and that she recovers and heals quickly.  Surgery is always scary and comes with risks but they have made things easier and easier with advancements in medicine.  May all go well.  Prayers for your family.

Thanks everyone for your supportive comments and ideas. My mother really appreciated them. I just found out that her operation went fine, she is safe and she will be released from the hospital tomorrow.

Sorry about the late response since your mom's probably already undergone surgery, but I hope your mom had a speedy recovery. I think from what I know laparoscopic gallbladder surgery is a pretty standard procedure now so your mom should be fine.
I can understand the desire to be physically present for your mom and your aunt but you have to remember sometimes there's more power in prayers than anything else. that's what I do when I feel guilty and sad about not being there constantly for my parents. At least you can see your mom when she gets back home from the hospital, my parents live ~8,000 miles away in Pakistan and that is the flight distance between the two countries! So yes, while I feel strongly at times that i can be physically with them or what if something happens to them, but that is where I pray and pray hard for their health and long life.

I am so glad the operation went well.  Please try not to worry, it is a well practiced operation.  But dont let her lift anything for 6 weeks, women are very bad at disobeying doctors orders LOL

I wish her a good recovery  X
