Bonnie’s Head Symptoms
(sister-in-law helped me with this)
Described 22 July 2008
Numerous times per day I feel a series of events that leave me feeling nauseated and somewhat dazed. The episode begins with a trigger, sometimes known, often unknown. Around the middle of my head, a sensation occurs that could best be described as a foreign substance moving through the middle of my skull up to the top of it, like a heavy, viscous liquid surging upwards. This is followed by a vice-like pressure around the middle swath of my skull. Nausea and confusion accompanies this pressure. Sometimes the pressure is quite painful, other times is simply a strong force. Occasionally the pain occurs in my temples but most often in the back of my head. When these episodes occur, I feel like I am outside looking into myself, or as if I am not really present in the room. I feel disoriented or spacey but not dizzy. If I continue what I was doing, then the pain or pressure increases and continues for hours and hours. Sometimes the pain lasts until the end of the day. If I cease the activity, the disorientation goes away; however, I still feel nausea and headache for several hours afterwards.
Known triggers are multitasking activities that require vision, concentration, and bodily movement. Cooking a meal with several dishes simultaneously or shopping at a mall are known triggers. I can adjust my cooking by preparing one dish at a time over a longer period of time.
