So today I went for the angiogram (cardiac cath). I had one done before when I lived in VA, but this was a totally different animal. They told me to be there at 9, and they didnt take me to the cath lab until 3:30! Discharged at 9:30 freaking p.m.!!!! Ugh! Everyone there was a complete professional though. No, I didnt go in for blocked arteries or stents or anything. Wonder how long it would have taken had I gotten those too!!! The purpose was to locate the aneurysm, see how big it actually is and exact location, and to see the condition of the aortic valve (former Ross Procedure) which is actually my pulmonary valve. They don't do Ross' anymore did you all know that? Anyway, the aneurysm is 7.0 cm's, the aortic valve is "shredded" (his exact words) and under no circumstances am I to put this off. So armed with the results from the angiogram, and a fresh consult with a mega doc from Johns-Hopkins, my surgeon is going to be able to recommend which valve to go with (probably will be a mechanical one this time) and where to actually have the surgery done....here where I live or at Hopkins. Unfortunately, the final say will probably go to my health insurance company...(((s i g h))).
