baby shower

well, im doing a friends shower in sept, and she founds out in a couple weeks what she's having....they are hoping for a girl, but she won't take the u/s to heart till she has a 3d....well, my dilemna is, since my shower(being held 3 hrs away), is on oct 4th, i was gonna do hers 9/20.....her EDD(well her c-sect) is scheduled for 01/07/09, but since she has a history of going way to early(boys born @ 27 weeks), i thought i'd have it much earlier than "normal"...simply cos she delivered twins at 27w, her BS wasnt supposed to happen for 3 more weeks, and it was cancelled...i'm not even sure anyone got her anything! so i really want to do this early lol.....but her 3d is set for like 9/14! a week before the shower! and i think i'm going to just have a gender nuetral shower, bbut i'm afraid she's going to want me to call everyone and tell them what she's having, so they can buy for that sex...of ourse, it could turn out well...but i'm sending out the invites around august 20th, with an rsvp for 9/10.....to give everyone 2+ weeks etc....what do i do? and how do i have a gender neutral shower? i'd put if off, but heck i'm due oct 25th, and it would be truely hard on me to do it in mid oct or november....and dec is xmas, leaving it hard for people to come and buy her stuff, plus, we're not sure if she'll make it that far....

ok i'm sorry for rattling....i'm having her a "surprise" shower...her OCD would cause alot of tension were she there to decorate lol, so since her twins have horse therapy on saturday, and she don't get home till noon, my plan is to have everyone there b4 she gets home...she'll think it's for afternoon....i do have her fiance's permission, as since he's known me 3 yrs and my df for 10, he has no qualms about us and the other co-host(whom "mom" has known for like 7 years), being in the house by ourselves.....also, i've thought about having a "pool" shower....it's gonna still be fairly warm here, and i thought about having the games and such inside, with presents, and sandwhiches, but having "appetizers" and virgin drinks outside in the pool....she gets really hot really easy even inside, so i thought since she has a good sized patio and pool to incorporate those....what do ya'll think? plus, i'll be like a month from delivery and i don't mean to sound selfish, but i KNOW that pool is gonna be tempting lol....so i thought about a "beach baby" theme.....cos it's gender neutral right?!

That sound like fun!!!  Beach Baby, I like it.  I'd go with the gender neutral party.  Most people will include a gift receipt so if she doesn't like something or wants to exchange it she can.  I think it's great and I'd do the pool beach theme because for one you could do a picnic kinda thing and use disposable things (less clean up) and for two who doesn't have fun at the pool or beach???  Just be careful if there is anyone close to delivery because I know a girl who's water broke while in the pool and she didn't even know it until her doctor appointment 3 days later and she had almost no fluids left and they did a c section right away.  She's fine and the baby is fine but it could've been really bad.  Oh and if it's done outside, you would have less to decorate (aka, less cost and less things to be crooked - expecially if she's OCD)  I'd do foods like a bar-b-q or picnic foods like fried chicken, sandwiches, potato salad, etc., oh and watermellon or a jello cake for dessert (can you tell I'm hungry lol).  I'd play games like who can make an "innertube" (with string or tp or whatever) closest to the mommy-2-Bs size.  I'd try to alter games to incorperate the theme.  You could do a shower that was for everyone not just the girls and make the guys perticipate in the games (that could be fun) or make them hang outside with the kids and grill the food while you girls did the presents and games inside in the ac.  But I think it's a really great idea, you should go with it.  I know I'd love it

thanks! ya, her df wants to be involved, and my df is like "what???".....if he gets dragged in, it'll be a bbq lol, cos he won't do sandwiches hehe....well, only me and her are pregnant, so hopefully the water breaking can be avoided lol.....i'm def doing disposables lol....instead of the game where you guess how many pieces of candy r in the jar, i thought about a mason jar filled with sand and shells, and everyone guess how much it weighs! she has a large food scale, so it'd work! and we're doing a "wishing/advice tree", so i thought about making those with either beach ball shapes, or buying post its that have a "water" theme...ya know, the beach baby thing only crossed my mind when i made the posting, but it's sticking!!! i love it, and it'd be easy to decorate! and when it comes to the "dress baby" game, i could always buy 1o f those cheapie one piece stringie baby bathing suits lol.....those things are hard when you're NOT blindfolded! and my mom mentioned watermelon margaritas(virgin of course), or a/free pina coladas.....

gimme more ideas!!!! hahaha.....;)

now she has decided we can do it the 18th....the week before i'm due.....but ithink it'll be ok, ijust won'tbe able to do the pool part(just in case!)...and we won't be running around, so it should be that stressful.....plus i have a non-preggo co-host hehe....

Sounds like you're stressing.  I'd do gender neutral - something that  you could add "pink or blue" to at the last minute.  Btw...I'm in Houston and I own a diaper and spa cake company if you'd like some help.

I wish you the best!!!
