Heading out on vacation

Jul 25, 2008 05:58AM - 15 comments

Heading out tomorrow morning for a family vacation in Temagami for a week.  This is an hour north of North Bay.  I am meeting 3 of my brothers and my sister and their families and dogs plus my parents there for a family reunion.  We are all renting cabins at the same resort.  I am becoming so close to my family as we get older, especially all my brothers.  And I love my sisters in law too.  My sister has been the blacksheep and I am hoping that this week will help us forge a stronger relationship.  I am so happy that my son is coming with us.  At his age they often don't want to do things with their family.  It will be so good having a whole week with Greg.  I'm looking forward to the boating and fishing and swimming and campfires and laughs.

I'm happy that I can head out knowing that my friend Linda is no longer in fear of having cancer.  it would have been hard to be gone knowing she needed support.

I wish all those who just had or are about to have surgery a speedy recovery.  I do so pray that I will return to some good news here on the forum.

Trudie,
Sounds like a great time - watch out for those black flies!  Thanks for all your kind words and come on down to Windsor when you get a chance.

Sounds like a wonderful time.  My family is spread all over, but came together in the Spring for my dtr's wedding.  I would love a vacation like the one you have planned.  Black flies .. Vick's Vapo Rub .. a winning combination.

Enjoy.  Judy C

Can you adopt me so I can go.  Oh that sounds heavenly.  A week in the woods.  I know you are THRILLED that you will have your son with you and I hope you have a wondrous time.  I am going to my MIL's and it is in the country and we are going to pick blueberries and blackberries.  I hope to meet ChrisP.  Strike that, I am going to make sure I meet Chris this time.  Have extra fun for me.  I like my marshmallows black and crispy.

Jan, you are SO adopted.  Hope you enjoy your stay in the country.  JC145, how does Vicks help with the bug bites?  Please share your secret!

Trudie,
Sounds wonderful, I hope you and your family have a terrific time around the camp fire. Rest, relax and enjoy family.

Years ago when we visited friends in Parry Sound, a cabin right on the lake, the "boys" would get up early (5 AM) and go fishing for breakfast.  First they layered on Vicks on exposed skin .. and no bites.  You have to like the smell of vicks .. which I do. :-)  Judy

Very cool.  Thanks Judy.  I have to admit I'm a Vicks lover too (much to my husband's chagrin).  I will be driving through Parry Sound on my way tomorrow.  Glad you have had a chance to enjoy that area.

Trudie,
Long time no talk, sorry I never made it there when I was up in Canada, I only got as far as Elora and London.  I was supposed to get to Parry Sound to see a friend but only got to Barrie, just ran out of time. Maybe next summer...
Anyway, funny to see Temagami, that is where I went to summer camp when I was a kid, I remember it well! So beautiful. Enjoy your time with all your family in such a beautiful place!!

talk soon I hope,
Joelle

Joelle, so good to see you on the forum again.  I used to live in Elora (my mother used to have a Home Hardware store there and my first husband was there so lived there for first 2 years of marriage).  Hope all is well with you.

Hi Trudie,
It all sounds lovely, take lots of pictures and Yummmm... I'd love a marshmellow too, but put mine on half a chocolate bar w/graham crackers!!  Have a wonderful time, those memories you are making will sustain you when times are less good.

Another trick for the pesty bitters is pennyroyal oil... relative of catnip in the mint family, might help the less "noble of nose".  You can get the concentrated oil at healthfood stores, probably best to dilute it for any children in the party though... After a bite can use lavender oil to stop the itchies.    Great to know you'll be so happy!!
Thank you, Susie
