I like the part about the freedom...lol  I was frantic when I lost my blue and gold, he was all that I could think about and the little stinker was 2 lots over for a whole week and I couldn't find him.
I hate to say this but sometimes people do find pet birds and keep them for themselves.  Sam may be in this situation.
I know what you are saying about bird personalities.  I will share some bird stories with you one day of my parrots.  I have one that sings Opra, where in the hell he heard that I have no idea but he sings "Oh gooooood boyyyy"  but in that Opra sound...I have no idea he picked that up on his own because I had never sang that to him.  He also knocks on the door and if you go to answer it he laughs at you, he will call the dogs in my voice and when they come running he cracks up laughing like "you stupid dog, she wasn't calling you"  He loves to trick people and other pets.
I know exactly how you feel.  I had hoped that when I opened your email today it was going to tell me you got him back.  I do so hope that you do.  I know how it feels to be close to a pet and wonder whatt happened to them because they disappeared.  Keep your chin up

I hope and pray you find your little Sam. I love my pets so much, and my birds are my family too, like my dogs. I think it takes a special person to own and love bird; not everyone is cut out for that.
I used to have a cockatiel named Kipper; he was and still is my favorite bird, but he died about 5 years ago from kidney failure. I never saw it coming. He was very young, so the vets told me his death was a genetic problem. But when he died, it was like my life just came to a stop for a few days. I missed his little songs, words and sound effects that he'd do. He loved to say his name, like "KipperKipperKipper," and he would try to sing "You Are My Sunshine," which was the funniest thing about him because he could NOT sing, lol! He couldn't carry a tune, stay on key, or remember the lyrics, but he'd put his whole heart into singing that song--it was hilarious!
He definitely brightened my life during a very hard time for me, so I know the sense of loss you must feel over Sam. Please keep us updated about your search for him. I'll be praying that he finds a way back home to your loving companionship!
