I just found out I am BRCA 1 positive. All I can think of is my little girl.....
Hi Sara,
I just saw your post. How are you? It's good that you are leaving on vacation for a little while. Your surgery is soon! I'm hopeful for good results from the sentinal nodes. I am BRCA2 positive. I had the exact same thoughts as you when I found out -- I wondered what I had potentially blessed my children with. The genetic counselor gave me some good advice. She told me that by the time my kids MAY have to deal with BRCA genes, there will be an intervention that makes it a non-issue. I'm told that already people with BRCA 1 or 2 can go through in-vitro fertilization and separate the positive embryos from the negative embryos and implant only the negative ones, thereby eliminating the possibility of passing on the trait. Neat, right?
Focus on positivity, healing, goodness and getting yourself well and moving on. We are not our cancer. We are ourselves.
