A little worried

Jul 26, 2008 02:18PM - 4 comments

I have been feeling pretty good as of late.  My strength is slowly coming back and I'm not so fatiqued as I used to be. I have been having abd. pains or actually belly aches for at least 3 weeks now.  They happen everyday and some are intense as far as pain goes. I can also at times feel a muscle pull or contracting in this same area, like it's stretching  to make room for the fluid. My PCP scheduled a ultrasound of my cariod and aorta veins because he is hearing murmurs.  He assured me he didn't expect to get bad news, but felt it better to have it checked out. I have a history of ascites and just had it drained in Dec 07,and then I started on Topotecan for 6 months 18 treatments. So while the tech was scanning my aorta,I asked her if she would mind looking around for any pockets of fluid.  Well she asked me why and I explained how I have been feeling lately,so she was very nice and looked around. Sure enough there is fluid in my tummy area again!!  NOW  WHAT????  My plan is to go to the hosp for a copy of this scan as well as my ca-125 which was done the same day.  I will notify my Onc nurse and send a copy.  I'm not expecting any bad news..I just want him to be aware that it is definetly coming back again.....there have been many times when I have fluid in my belly..and he has investigated since I also have Hep C..which could cause ascites. I however know it's not my Hep C....I would be much more fatiqued..and my appetite would drop again.  I also know my appetite is declining...I always feel so full after a few bites.....what a way to lose weight ..lol..lol~~~~~~~ME

Worry is my middle name.  Having similar pains as those you describe, can they be attributed to ascites?

Hi,
I'm not sure if what I decsribed is always indicatative of ascites but for me it is.  I also notice that my clothes are a little snugger than before and some of my underwear roll down under my tummy when I have fluid. I'm a small gal so any weight gain is usually real easy to spot. Have you had ascites before?? I had it at my dx. they drained 1900cc then 10 days later at my debulking surgery another 3500cc,then last year 850cc. I hope it's nothing for you.  A lot of times when I get tummy pains it's usually from my colon, especially if your on chemo or just getting over it.  Take care I hope you feel better soon.(((hugz)))~~~Joanne
