Cosmo is okay, but not Maxim?

My son is going to be turning 9 in a few months & over the last year I have become increasingly aware of the magazines that are on display at grocery check outs; Cosmo, People, Enquire, etc. Here's the thing: if a store were to have Maxim available like that there would be a lot of problems for that store, but these womens' mags are no less raunchy. I mean everytime we go shopping my son's vision is filled with titles like "The Top 10 Naughty Sex Tricks" or "....'s Sex Life Exposed". It is really starting to get on my nerves. I have nothing against adult content & I greatly enjoy the sex life my husband & I have, but I do have a problem with adult content being the norm at the checkouts. We expect F-Street to stay hidden & at the book store mags like Maxim & Stuff are in the 18+ section, so why is Cosmo & the others an exception? They sell sex just like everyone else. Stupid double standards. >_<

Just my rant.

The local grocery stores here cover Cosmo with a little wooden plate.

I completely agree with you.  My son is too little to notice yet, but I already worry about it.  In addition to the titles I don't want him to get the idea that the front cover pics are what women are supposed to look like.  Not a very healthy image or titles for any child to have.
