They took a few days to get back to me, and I had to do some digging around myself, but the end result is, I will not be able to donate my own blood. The people at Hopkins say it is too close to the surgery. The surgeon himself didnt tell me this, but the "patient advocate." I am going Friday for my preop and at that time, I will ask about my daughter donating for me (she is going with me to the appt.) Of course there will be a cost to that because they don't take your word (nobody does) of your blood type. It has to be in writing and she doesnt have that, so she would need to be tested for compatability. Otherwise, I have been working part time still, getting stuff done now that I know I won't be able to do soon (car wash, oil change, etc.) One thing though...I have no doubts about the doctor doing my surgery. That is priceless.
