All Jake's (the Doberman) results are in.

He's totally fine.  Everything is dead-on normal.  Which is really great!  I don't want anything to be wrong with him.

As for a gastro consult...Mr. Peek and I have hashed this out all weekend.  This week, Jake has been fine...maybe only once he's thrown up for nearly a whole week.  Mr. Peek is of the opinion to leave well enough alone.  I am more of a mind to have the consult and scope, mostly b/c the carpet scrubbing (post vomiting) is done by ME.

However, the vet has said repeatedly that there is a very, very high chance that nothing whatsoever will be found to be the reason, even if we poured thousands of dollars into investigating this.  He is doubtful with all the labs looking so good, that anything of any significance will be found on scoping him.

So...no consult for now.  We are trying some new med for vomiting (Cerenia?) to use occasionally when he gets really bad.

I am glad to hear that Jake is ok. Our dog Petey also has vomitting episodes occasionally (not as often as your Jake) and they have done a ton of tests and never found anything wrong. Our vet believes that "bad nerves" is the cause of Petey's problem. Good luck and I hope Jake remains well.

That's great news!
(Just invest in some great stain removal products)

Yay! So happy nothing is wrong with Jake. I'm sure the unexplained vomiting is frustrating, but at least it's better now. Give him a pat for me!

It would probably be cheaper to replace the carpet with tile, rather than run up a vet bill for the gastro doc.

Swampy likes wanna's suggestion...tell Mr Peek you must have a new floor!

I'm sure glad nothing major is wrong, but at the same time I understand the frustration of still not knowing.  I take it you've tried reglan for the vomiting?  That's usually the first and cheapest line of defense for vomiting.  One thing you might try is to bypass the GI system altogether when he gets to puking and try injections.  The difference is remarkable, and it's just a very fine gauge needle administered under the neck skin.  When Chica was dying of kidney failure and couldn't take oral reglan any longer, the injections kept the vomiting under control without the extrapyramindal side effects.  BIG difference.

Since you're a nurse your vet shouldn't have any problem giving you some syringes for emergencies.  Our vet just pre-loaded a dozen or so and we picked up new ones as needed.  Keep it in mind anyway.  :-)

Figures he would stop this week, AFTER shelling out all that money last week.  I just picked up 4 Cerenia tablets for $30.  FOUR pills.

I'm not sure we've ever tried the Reglan.  We've done famotidine, cimetidine, maalox...If we missed trying reglan, I don't know how.
