Why, oh WHY?  Why did I answer the phone???

Aug 25, 2008 06:18PM - 11 comments

Work called.  I generally don't answer the phone, but I thought it was someone else.  Anyway, the unit manager asked if I would be on call tonight from 7p-11p.  The reason I don't answer the phone is that I am incapable of saying "No" when they call to ask me to do things like this.

So, I say "Ok", weakly, and prepare to hang up, thinking there may be a chance they won't need me.  Then she quickly tells me "Well, we'll definately need you so be here by 7".

This means....NO WATCHING THE HILLS TONIGHT.

*sobs quietly*

Why did I answer the phone?  Why????????

I do get time and a half, but still.  No Hills.

Just do what you did last week. Tivo it, and make Mr. Peek wait, and watch it with you tomorrow.

And stop all that sobbing!

Use your phone to watch the show. I believe you can watch "The Hills" using your V-Cast service.

You and my mom....dying breed of "nice nurses".....  gunpowder and raw meat.  Hubby says that'll fix it!

Sorry Peek. I am soooo tired that I am not going to make it until 10 to watch it either. I will have to catch it on a rerun.

I wound up getting to come home at 8:30p, so I got to see it!  (Tivo'd the early one at 7p)

Glad to hear it, but that was definitely a waste of your time! Not to mention the emotional upheavel that it caused.

Yes.  I was emotionally devastated.

Saying NO sometimes feels impolite.  Try this:
Karen McQuestion wrote an article titled "The Art of Saying No" that I have hanging on my wall.  She said her mother's response when politely declining was "that won't work out for me".  I love that phrase as I am not required to offer an explanation.  It says it all.
