Following my panniculectomy and muscle tightening in April of this year, I developed a couple of seromas. This is where serous fluid collects between the muscle and the new tummy tissue, kind of like a blister. There is no fault or blame for this condition, it is merely a complication that can occur with this type of surgery. Initially, it was drained with a syringe, but it reoccurred. I am convinced this is so I can have the "total experience" since I elect to share my journey with others ... lolll The seroma reoccurred and, the second time, was small enough it could not be aspirated. Eventually, your body either absorbs it or it will find the weakest point in your skin and erupt through to drain. My body chose the latter.
The surgery I had now was for lysis of adhesions, which freed the underlying scar tissue that developed along the suture line. It involved removing an elipse of skin, freeing the tissue and resuturing. The seroma cavity was found and explored. Some unhealthy underlying tissue was removed. I am now sutured and my tummy once again looks amazing! Can't thank my surgeon, his nurse and his staff enough for their kindness, caring and compassion and for the incredible and talented skill he has. This surgery has changed my life as much as the weight loss and I am indeed blessed.
The incredible support I received from my friends here and from people I had never met absolutely touched my heart! The kindness and compassion that was so selflessly given eased my apprehension and I am most grateful. Thank you all, sincerely ...
Am taking it easy for the next 10-14 days and look forward to getting back to working on the garage, doing yard work and exercising. While my life used to be lived in this sedentary fashion, I now long to return to the activity and exercise that has become a part of my life. Life is such a wonderful and amazing journey ... :]
