So the other day I was struck by a wave of panic...you know, the "What if" thinking. What if this doesn't work. What if we never have a baby? What if we have no more money to even adopt, etc. The next morning, I checked the In Touch (www.intouch.org) web site's daily devotional (see the archives and read the one called "Big Anxieties, Little Faith" for Feb 19). It is based on Matthew 6:25-30 which reads (NLT)....."25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?" 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
...and a few days later, I read another devotional (See Feb 23rds) called A Divine Guarantee based on Matthew 6:31-34 (NLT) 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
These devotionals are right! We need to lay our anxieties at the feet of God and BELIEVE what the Bible says about God and how he loves us and will care for us. He is the ruler of the entire universe and he has foreseen all that has and ever will happen in the lives of each one of us. So, our situations are not out of HIS control, even if they are out of our control. Why should that put us at ease? Well, because God only wants what is best for us and consistent with His plan for our lives. If we truly believe this, we would not worry! God is in control and has a purpose, even in our infertility! Furthermore, God guarantees that if we make HIM our number one priority (and perhaps not having a baby) by submitting to his rule over us (right to do with our lives what he choses) and transformation he's bringing about in us, he will meet our needs. Will that get us anything we ask for, including a child? No, but he knows what our true needs are and wants to give us this blessing if it is for our good and fits into His plan. This is certainly something to think about. I must remember these verses and trust in the one who knit me in my mother's womb. He knows me and loves me...and he knows and loves each of you. Take a moment to talk to Him today.
I pray we all come to cast aside our worries and fears so that hope shines bright.
