About Me:

Aug 12, 2011 - 16 comments

I am 47 years old...for at least a couple more days.  I have had OCD since I was a teenager.  It has changed throughout the years.  First I started out as a checker....is this off, is that off, do I have everything, etc.  Then I went off to college and developed a fear that I would not make it to the bathroom so I went ALL THE TIME!  In addition, I obsessed about my grades and studied for every test to the point where the teacher COULD NOT surprise me.  Graduated....got a job in a lab working with HIV.  Developed HIV anxiety.  Quit that job...got married :)  Got a wonderful new job that I am still at 22 years later.  Got pregnant, developed MAJOR OCD...could not take medication because the baby was growing.  Had to make it to 3 months...made it to 3 and a half...by then the wheels fell off the cart big time (I sympathize with all of you that have this problem and are not on medication)...took medication (Prozac) and a little Klonopin.  Thankfully my son turned out okay...Senior in high school this year.  Stayed on Prozac (20 mg) for 4 years including when I was pregnant the entire time with my second son.  He has ADHD but I don't blame the prozac for that.  Went off medication for a long time...developed MAJOR OCD again this past May...Happily on Wellbutrin and feeling wonderful.

So, I am an expert at having OCD, have ruminated about everything on the OCD forum list, and still here to tell the tale and living a great life!

My suffering is no greater than anybody else's on here.  We all have similar problems.  I just wanted you all to know a little about me and that I am proof that you can get your life back.  There are many times I thought I would be stuck in the OCD cycle and never be able to come out of it but I have come back, every time.

Casting aside my stuff, I have finally read your story. It seems that you have your own turmoil to deal with and it's great to hear that you've managed to hold it together, in terms of raising a family, having meaningful employment and living a great life. I'm happy for you  :-)

I am very much the same as you were when you were in highschool. I work so hard to make sure my grades are perfect, and am always afraid that i will forget something, school-wise or not. I am not sure if i have OCD, but i have been so fussy and about my schoolwork for about 1 year and a half that i think i cant take it anymore, and I have now given up.... which i know isnt such a good idea...
Thanks for your positive attitude, it has helped us all! x

YOU HAD A REAL LOT OF DIFFICULTIES MA'AM...YOU ARE A VERY BOLD AND A COMPASSIONATE LADY....NO DISRESPECT BUT MEDS WON'T DO EVERYTHING IN OCD. M REALLY HAPPY THAT U'VE FOUND JOY, BUT DON'T GIVE THE CREDIT TO UR MEDS, GIVE IT TO URSELF, ITS UR MIND WHO TOOK THE PAIN AND STOOD AGAINST EVERYTHING, MEDS JUST ARE A COMPLEMENTING FACTOR, SOMETIMES THEY ARE JUST PLACEBO. THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING UR STORY....
