we went for our first prenatal today. I calculate I'm 5 weeks and 6 days along, which is a bit early for a first u/s.  yesterday i had some pretty intense cramping, and then this morning i had a bit of brown spotting streaked in discharge on the tp.  I havent had any spotting until now.  Luckily it was the same day of our appointment.  My OB is wonderful.  I just love her. She did an u/s and she wasn't able to see a heartbeat.  She scheduled me for another u/s in a week and she ordered some blood work done to check my hormone levels.

I know it's possibly too early for a hearbeat, but this in conjunction with the alarming spotting and cramping has me so worried :( im going to try to stay positive, but it's going to be hard.

In the meantime, i've been pretty nauseous the past couple of days and exhausted.  im hoping my pregnancy symptoms, as miserable as they've been, continue this week as some reassurance.  I wonder if anyone has a similar experience with a missing heartbeat early on that turned out positively? we'll just have to wait and see i guess.

It's definitely too early for the HB. I hope you get to hear it in a week! :)
Preg symptoms are a good sign! I hope you stay positive! People spot all the time early in pregnancy not to worry! :)

thank you girls, for your words of encouragement!  you've made me feel so much better already.  :)  No spotting for the rest of the day, so I'm hoping it's an isolated incident and looking forward to next week's appointment.  deep breath!

I had this happen to me and they said it was from the placenta not fully attaching. My placenta was towards the front of my uterus so the bleeding was able to 'leak' out easier instead of desolve. I too had some cramping, but the rest of the symptoms continued (nausea and heartburn).  Just so you know I have a happy baby girl who is almost 9mos old!

Good luck girl!

Most of the time a heartbeat starts  anywhere from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 weeks.  So the fact that none was present at 5w, 6d is really nothing to worry about at all.  Lots of women don't see it until even later...it can really depend on the tech, the equipment, and other factors.  I saw my son's at 6w, 3d and had been spotting and outright bleeding for weeks at that point.  So many women spot or bleed in early pregnancy.  It's always good to have it checked out, but so much of the time it's nothing at all.  I know it's impossible not to worry, but try to not to if you can.  I have heard (and experienced) countless stories like yours that have turned out just fine.  Best of luck to you.

I agree with the ladies!  Spotting is normal unless it's followed by clots and severe cramping. Stay positive girl. My OB did not even want to see me until I was 8wks but I managed to get an appt at 7 1/2 weeks. She did a trans vaginal ultrasound so we saw the heartbeat but did not here it. Even as late as my last appt (I was 11 wks and 2 days) She did a regular ultrasound b/c she said it was still probably to early to hear it. We did see it again and it was flickering away. So hang in there and leave the rest to god:) <3

I had spotting and cramping with my son.  My OB didn't do an ultrasound until 9 weeks though.

The cramping you've had, is it a dull constent ache or does it come and go at regular intervals?  With my son, I had a dull constant ache like menstral cramps.  With my miscarriage last year, the cramps were spaced more like contractions.

Best of luck to you.  I hope your little bean is just digging in and causing you cramps and spotting.

i had spotting for one day with my very first son, i rushed to the ER freaked out and crying, i was like around 6 weeks, they said it was normal and most likely just old blood and not to be alarmed, and this is your first, correct?!??! My first i had cramping galore girl, my doc told me, that cramping is very normal, it is the uterine expanding getting babies new home nice and stretched out for him/her to grow!!!!! I also was freaked out i was having a m/c but i also  felt like pms, but different , would come and go and certain times, and some days nothing at all.......with this one now, i also had cramping and the first thing that ran through my mind was ectopic, m/c , all the bad stuff, but then DH said to me, why keep stressing out so much over it, stress is not good for baby and it's development....just think positive girlie!!! your baby will be fine!!!! If your like me, i freak out at every lil thing, once our baby heartbeat is able to be heard, i bought a baby heart monitor, i can hear it all by myself and make it all much more comforting!!! :-)

HH9M!!!!! <3

.now the next good thing waiting for the joys of baby kicking us in ribs while we sleep hehe...now thats a cramp!! Good luck hun!!!

thank you so much girls...you've really helped put all this in perspective...im so much more relaxed about it today because of your thoughtful responses!  I dont know what i would do without you guys!

Next week's u/s still can't get here soon enough, but I'm feeling much more encouraged than I was.  I'm still experiencing strong pregnancy symptoms today...normal cramping, not sharp or prolonged like the night before last, and only a tiny spot of brown on the tp this morning.  So I suppose these are all good signs.

Hello first off congrats I too had cramping so far everyday until last week...... With my m/c I never cramped. But I never saw anything but a sac @ 5weeks 5days which scared me half to death but my doctor kept smiling even though I was freaking out about everything. I had the pleasure of meeting my friends daughter today whom she spotted or should I say had full bleeding with until 3 months so you will be fine go to your bible and read Isaiah 49 where it explains god choosing a baby from his/ hers mother's womb before they were born very powerful I keep my coco's ultrasound right within that chapter verse everyday and I pray remember GOD IS GOOD AND TO HIM BE THE GLORY

It is totally normal to have cramps and some brown spotting could be implantion.. I have had four m/c's  and unfortunately feel like a pro at it sadly. I had am/c before this pregnancy and I got pregnant without having a period after the mc and when I went to my first dr appt they did an ultrasound and found a heart beat and said I was 6 weeks at the time.. I was shocked b/c I had my m/c march 25 and found out I was pregnant again on april19th and they then did an u/s. I couldn't figure it out for the logest time lol!

Try not to worry I know many of ladies that hvent heard the heart beat until 8 or 9 weeks try n stay calm and keep positive hon! Prayers ur way for a sticky bean!!
