So I was reading in What To Expect The First Year and it said that babies at Aspen's age don't yet know to fear things that are "scary". So, last night I decided to go with my girl friends to a haunted house attraction thing and I couldn't find a baby sitter so I decided that I would bring Aspen with me.
At the gate to the haunted house they kept advising me to not take her in there because they always have little kids coming out crying. But then she admitted that she had never actually seen a child under three go in. So we had one of the characters from inside come out and try to scare Aspen and instead of crying she laughed. Probably helps that her and I play hide and seek all the time and I am always sneaking around corners and up behind her and going "BOO".
While waiting in line my friends and I kept fake screaming and Aspen would fake scream back which was really amusing. Once we got inside the haunted house it was fine. The only two times Aspen got scared was when we went through a pitch black room and weird things from the ceiling kept tickling us. The other time was when one of my friends screamed and grabbed me and accidentally got Aspen's leg as well who screamed since she wasn't expecting it.
All in all I think Aspen had a good time. I didn't bring a stroller or anything and just carried her on through. Most of the time I would run through the rooms pretending to scream and Aspen was laughing and pretending to scream with me. At one place in there you have to crawl through this like glowing tunnel and Aspen went through and crawled on her own after me and was being really funny because she kept trying to touch the lights on the other side of the glass. The actors in there were really nice and would interact with Aspen by trying to scare her (but in like a friendly way) and then would let her touch their props. One person even got really close to her face and was doing the menacing laugh and all Aspen did was take her hand put it on their forehead and pushed them away.
I don't think I will take her again until she is like 8 or so just because once she does learn to fear things I don't think it would be a good place for her to be. But it was fun that she was able to come this time and seemed to enjoy it.
