Should I go to the ER!

Jan 06, 2012 - 19 comments

I started spotting brownish D/C on New Years Day. All week the spotting was present but seemed to decrease. I also expelled a couple of  nickel size clots as well. Today I noticed that what was BROWN D/C ,is now RED. I've also noticed small tissue like clots every time I urinate. I  have very mild cramps which have been present since ET. I am 19dpt and as of of yesterday my BETA was 881. I'm very concerned and wonder if I should report to the ER.

RE is closed for the weekend so I am sort of in limbo. I am also considering seeing my PMD tomorrow morning. I just don't see how this could be "NORMAL". 3 embies we're transferred so could one be leaving us?  Of course I don't know how many implanted at this time :( I know longer consider this spotting. I am bleeding! I am stressed and really fed up w/ trying to diagnose myself at home. God I am so NERVOUS, we call on you to carry us through this stressful time. U IME OCE I SINA I DUHA SVETOGA AMEN!

I think you need to do whatever you need to for peace of mind.  If it would ease your mind, go!!!  I understand your anxiety.  Is the bleeding getting heavier?  Are your cramps getting worse!  I am sorrry this is driving you insane, I get it!!! As a person that has spotted every shade of brown, and red....I get it!!!  If it would just stop!!!  My prayers are with you, and I pray you get answers :). Hugs my friend!!!!!

The bleeding seems to be getting heavier! Not like a period but the small tissue like clots are really concerning me!! I just expected this to STOP by now not get worse. I do have mild cramping but nothing severe. I am not one to get menstrual cramps so to me....... the cramps are somewhat uncomfortable. Probably wouldn't bother the average person.

GRRRR!!!!! just want to relax and have a happy and healthy pregnancy !!!!

Thanks Sisi and MHV I will keep you posted!!

I too have experienced bleeding in pregnancy and I know it can scare the wits out of you.  Logic says no need to go to the ER as there is really nothing that can be done.  If bleeding gets really heavy, a pad an hour, then yes, you should absolutely go.  The medical rule of thumb my OB has always told me is that with a bit of spotting, bring it up at your next appointment.  Bleeding such as you describe, give your Dr. a call.  Heavy bleeding, go into the ER.

Emotionally its of course very different, and I am one who has gone in for just spotting.  If you are far enough along, they can do an ultrasound.  If not, they can do a stat beta and reassure you that those numbers are still rising.

I agree with mhv, do whatever gives you peace of mind.  And remember, there are so many reasons we bleed in early pregnancy, and most of them are not threatening to the baby.  I hope it stops soon so you can relax a bit.  Thinking of you.

Is it all the time, or still just when u use the restroom?  Mine is heavier when I have done a lot of movement. Ie: walking, housework.  When I notice it getting heavier, I stop a d rest.  But, it is only when I wipe, ad a little in the commode.  I have also heard it can get heavier as your uterus expands.  Heck girl, we haven't been this far pregnant, before...we deserve to worry.  I just wish we didn't have too.  Hugs!!!!

Ok. This is what happened to me on my first bfp. I was 3 months along.  I hope this is not what's happening to you, I started with the brown discharge, then red then the clotting , I had later went to bed because didn't feel well. I woke up to cramping , gushing of blood and the passing of our little baby boy.  I was told it was chromosome abnormality, I don't know. I pray your just over doing it.  Just relax!  If you go to the hospital if this is the case they will only do a cleaning out then instruct you to your Gyno.

Oh meant to also say my clots were from the lining pulling away from the uterus, and is what led to my miscarriage , I was told that the implantation could have taken on a area with scar tissue...

My RE scolded me once for going to the ER for bleeding.  He said it would not change the outcome, and if I had stayed in bed, I could have possibly eased the uterus' contractions (it contracts when you walk).  His advice, had I asked him, would have been to stay in bed and drink a lot of water, since both things calm contractions of the uterus.  (It won't fix an embryo that is fading, but if you are having contractions not related to an imminent miscarriage, it can help calm stop them.)  He also pointed out that a person can get exposed to all kinds of things sitting in the waiting area at the ER, some of which you don't want during pregnancy, and reminded me that nothing can make an embryo stay in, if it is going to go.

The only advice I would offer that is contrary to all of that is that if you begin to bleed a whole lot, or feel dizzy, or to run a fever, go to the ER.  A "whole lot" is defined as filling a maxipad in an hour, or "flooding," as in every time you stand up, suddenly losing a bowl full of blood.

I'd try the lying down and drinking water part first, but in the meantime, I would phone my RE's office.  Probably they have a nighttime protocol, with a number to call or extension to press, that will get you to one of the doctors on call, or at least a nurse practitioner.  Why not call your RE's office and see what they counsel?

From my experience< I would say go to the ER...I went through the same thing and miscarried and that was the worst thing that could happen.Im on bedrest now. I would say go and just laying down will not make thinks better cause the dr. told me I should've came as soon as I started bleeding and cramping, but you and the baby are in my thoughts!

Whatever is going on I pray you and the baby are ok. I sense you are in the hospital now having a very difficult time. I'm just praying for protection over you and your womb.

Please let us know how it goes.

Love,

Cheri

I don't have any advise to add that what's up above.  But I just wanted to post and let you know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope everything turns out good and you get a healthy baby (or two or three) when all is said and done.  Take care.

Thank you for your input!! Going to the ER made a world of difference for me despite any nosocomial infections I might have contracted while there LOL!!! My PMD has been very attentive through this entire ordeal and I would prefer her over the RE any day. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting things around your psyche and gaining self-satisfaction!!!

Hope all is well :)
