Would love suggestions on what to feed a baby that is sensitive to most forms of dairy.

With this new pregnancy I am producing less and less breast milk and it's getting more watery. Max is 4 months old and he loves to eat baby food but I want to make sure he is getting the proper nutrition.

So far he has done fine with apples, bananas, meat, chicken and turkey but he breaks out in rash on his cheeks and forehead with Organic Brown Rice Cereal, Goats Milk and Soy Formula.

He cannot tolerate any form of cow's milk. Milk based formula causes severe vomiting and rash on face, arms and neck. Even I had to give up most forms of dairy as just 1/4 cup of milk on cereal would cause him to spit up and break out in a rash after breast feeding.

So what else can I try? Do I just stick with the Brown Rice Cereal and Goats milk and go slower and just let him live with the rash and hope it goes away? That seems cruel though because it is itchy. I use an Organic Baby Wash as well as an Organic Eczema Lotion which helps a little bit.

If anyone else has been in a similar situation I'd love to hear what worked for you.

Thanks.

Im not sure if this will help or not and i dont know about the cereal. My baby girl, who is 2 months, was have gas issues and spit up as well. Her doctor has us switch to enfamil nutramigen and it has done wonders for her. On the can it says for baby with cow milk sensitivity and colic. I know its lactose free but not sure if its soy or not. Only down side is it dose cost more and is not covered by wic.

You should not feed your baby anything that is causing allergic reaction. No cow goat or soy milk. If you need to suppliment try using a formula like Neocate which is specifically designed for children with cow milk and soy allergies. This is expensive and will run you about $55 per can but it's most likely all your baby will tolerate. You should not give babies solid foods prior to six months of age. At that point you should avoid for your little one all soy and both cow and goat milk. I would also suggest not using baby cereals as it is not good for them. I've done a lot of research on feeding babies as my daughter has a severe milk allergies and a wheat intolerance.

This won't work right now because it's not formula, but when he gets older you can give him Boost: Kid Essentials. It's lactose, gluten, and soy free. I love the stuff and give it to my DD who is also lactose intolerant.

I was also told by my pediatrician not to give my DD any solid food before she was 6 months old.

Thanks for the advice. I've been doing some research over the past few days and the nutritionist my husband knows has us learning about the Paleo Diet and getting rid of wheat/soy and other grains which would probably be best for my Diabetes. I'll look into the formulas. Max is definitely worth any expense to make sure he is getting the nutrition he needs. As for now, I've taken him off everything and he is just breastfeeding again til we can find something better for him. He just nurses more frequently and i am drinking tons of water. He does sleep about 5 hours during the night which really helps me get a good supply built up by the time he wakes up. His face is starting to clear up. Poor Baby.

Didn't have this problem with the other kids and Pediatrician doesn't offer much help, unfortunately.

UPDATE - Went out on Jan 30 and bought the Enfamil Nutramigen. Getting Max to accept a bottle was quite the struggle. Took a whole night of screaming and rejecting it but now he's got the hang of it. He is doing great on the formula. No more itchy rash on his face and the scratches he had from all that itching are healing. No vomiting, no spitting up and a lot less gassy! I am still feeding him breastmilk but it's really watery so I add the formula to the breastmilk. Looks like we finally found something that works and he is so much happier. He is eating like a horse. He had 9oz in 1 hour last night and then slept for 6 hours straight for the first time!

Yay im so glad the nutramigen is working for him. Just be sure to inform his doctor he is on it when he goes next. Payton doctor said he wants to take her off of it at 4-6 months and put her on the gentalease. My understanding is in nutramigen the protein is fully broke down and in gentalease is partially broke down. Hope all goes well with max and the new pregnancy!
