Hey there! Just reading your blog - didn't realize you were studying nursing!!  One more thing we have in common :)

Read the florajen website - surprised they are touting this for vaginitis. Are you wanting to take it for that or something else?  Look at the strains of lactobacillus it has and then read up on some of the urogenital probiotic work by dr gregor reid and compare it.   I use femdophilus myself - it has 2 of the strains in that dr reid's work has found to be most helpful. Florajen seems to be more of a gi probiotic than a urogenital probiotic.

Hey Grace! I didn't notice this, still getting to figure out how this site works and all :)! Yeah since summer of '05 I've been in a vicious cycle of BV (treat with antibiotics) then yeast (treat with antifungals) and it has not quit yet!! Then my period comes and smoothens things over for a while and it starts up again. Do you think Femdophilus keeps you from having BV and yeast?? I'm willing to try ANYTHING, believe me, I never had this problem until one fateful summer night after my period ended. Before that I never, ever had any problems. Thanks again Grace :)

Oh and by the way there's Florajen, for vaginal health, and Florajen3, for gastro health. I like the sound of the Femdophilus from what I've read from his site. I've ordered a sample and I found a distributer near my school so I'm going to pick some up anyway even though I ordered a sample lol.

I use femdophilus - it's the only thing that stopped my constant bv ( had it more than I didn't for 4 years ).  

Yes I read both of the florajen's - neither of them have in urogenital strains :(

So this stuff really works huh? DidisMirage... Do you think if my BV doesn't clear up after taking my medication in full and making my boyfriend wear condoms I should consider using one of these medications? What are the major side effects of taking this med??

BV is notoriously difficult with a lot of women, LAMG20. Standard treamtent doesn't always work. This Florajen I think has been helping a little but I'm going to pick up Femdophilus and try it out. I've read that sometimes BV doesn't even get picked up because it's become part of you; which is the case for me. Microscopes don't pick it up anymore but I still have this thick discharge, the itching and burning gradually just went away. I'm going to try a probiotic (Femdophilus and another one) and unsweetened lacto yogurt vaginal suppository because I've seen some women have luck with that.

dr gregor reid has done most of the work with urogenital probiotics ( ok so he owns the patent on the most helpful strains too....he he he ).  Go to pubmed.gov and look him up or even google him and probiotics. You'll learn a lot. I think the jarrow website has a article from him too on femdophilus.  You can even get a free sample of femdophilus there too.

Sometimes discharge is normal.  Hormones can cause changes. You can even have too much "good" protective bacteria down yonder that causes discharge too.  Sometimes it's just not easy being a female :(

I've had what I believe is bv for two years now and have ben taking femdophilus for a couple of mon now. I am having painful burning, itching, and I believe gardnerella is immune to metronidazole and get yeast that seems to clear up with over counter yeast meds. I had a complete hysterectomy after having a multicystic mesothylioma but had no problems with a discharge or imbalance of any kind until I became sexually active with new boyfriend two years ago. I feel like my life is over because my boyfriend is too grossed out to have sex. I would give anything to not deal with this anymore. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Is there hope?
