abdominal pain

Well im new at this site!  I just thought that maybe someone here might have the same problems might know what problems im having.  I was having severe right abdominal pains so they took my gall bladder out.  About 3 months later pain came back.  I was in such bad pain that i could move or walk!!  I was sent to my surgeon and she told me that i would be goin into surgery that afternoon to have my appendix out.   About 4 weeks after surgery the same pain came back.  I was told that i had to do a colonoscopy. I had to take the fleet drinks that are supposed to clean you out.....the stuff never affected me after 2 bottles, just worse pain. I went in and they ended up giving me enemas then a manual clean out!!!  no fun!  I was then kinda diagnosed with IBS, but they weren't sure.  I was then referred up to the UW in Madison.  I ended up getting an upper endoscopy which came back normal.  They then found that my vertabrae in my back wasn't fused all the way and the end of my spinal cord was swollen, but not cancerous!!   They do know that i have a constipation problem, but other wise it is like a mystery diagnosis.  I just wish they could find the problem so i can live a normal life!

Wow!

It's hard to believe at 17 you had to go through all that.  Gallbladder removal and the other stuff  is usually reserved for older people like me .  I'm not a doctor, but it's clear you are seeing the wrong medical providers. Talk to your parents and seek out a well respected major health care facility for another shot at diagnosing your problem. It may involve travel out of your local area, but at your age you need to find out what's wrong, so you can resume a normal teenage lifestyle.

You are not alone!  I too have been experiencing chronic and acute upper abdominal pain, off and on for years.  However, this latest round of pain have been more severe and more consistant than in the past.  The pains that I have are across the entire upper abdomen from right to left.  The location and severity can alternate (being more severe on either the right or left).  Also with this latest bout, I have very little appetite, losing weight, occasional nausea and chronic fatigue.  I have had extensive labs, x-rays, mri's, ct scans, endoscopies, etc., and STILL no one can pinpoint the problem!  I have seen so many specialists that I have just become "sick" of doctors.  All they do is keep adding more PILLS.  The last gastroentorologist told me that "Some conditions are idiopathic and so they just make us doctors look like idiots."  Well, THAT just made me feel SO MUCH BETTER!  Isn't it scarey that more and more doctors as you say, "don't have a clue"??  I guess that I have resolved myself to that fact and so I am just trying to manage the pain as best that I can, and I am also trying natural and herbal remedies.  Otherwise, it's prayer and the prospect of divine intervention for me!
