my father is 84yrs old, with a severe problem of excessive spitting, his is constantly spitting everywhere, on the floor on the walls, he carrys a plastic bag to spit. He is forgetful, and doesnt use the bag. His wife is about had it, she gets very upset with him everyday. Especially having to clean up after him, it even makes her sick to her stomach, and its putting a big strain on his marriage. My father says he cant help it, he refuses to wear his dentures, is this habit or does he have a medical problem. This such a nasty thing of having to spit out every where. Does any one have any recommendations, he was never a spitter before, up until a fews ago, and it is getting worse.

I HAD EXCESSIVE SALIVA... I HAD TO KEEP A TRASH CAN BY MY BED SO I COULD SLEEP... I WENT TO A ENT DR. AND HE PRESRCIBED DEXILANT! IT STARTED TO WORK IMMEDIATELY... DEXILANT IS A CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE TO NEXIUM... I HEAR THEY BOTH WORK... SERIOUSLY, GO TO YOUR DR. AND HAVE THEM PRESCRIBE EITHER DEXILANT OR NEXIUM... IT WORKED FOR ME!

If there was a magic pill i would have been taking it allready, but i do not have acid reflux, i think it might be caused by something else...........Excessive saliva — increased amounts of saliva in your mouth — is usually a temporary problem (not) and rarely cause for concern. Normally, your salivary glands produce 1 to 2 quarts (0.9 to 1.9 liters) of saliva a day. However, because swallowing occurs continually and unconsciously, you don't generally notice the saliva. If you suddenly seem to have excessive saliva in your mouth, it could be because your salivary glands are making more saliva than usual (sialorrhea) or because you're swallowing less often.

Excessive saliva can be a side effect of some medications, and excessive saliva is common in the early months of pregnancy. Difficulty swallowing, which can lead to excessive saliva, may be caused by muscle or nerve damage in your mouth or throat.

I have the same excessive saliva for the past 5months as well..it happened right after I had local freezing for a cavity filling. The dentist said the same thing.." better more saliva then a dry mouth".He hit a nerve when giving me the freezing & it really hurt. He says there was no chance he hit a saliva gland but that doesn't help me..This condition really *****...so to speak.
These are some quotes that i found online that may be credible or not to others. We need a cure.  thank you . nuggetray

For 18 months my condition has grown increasing worse. The amount of saliva I produce is not excessive in the early morning but grows increasingly worse as the day progresses. The saliva is like a mucus and by evening I have to gulp or spit it out. Wearing an upper tooth guard limits the amount I produce as does chewing gum; however, these only help for a limited period. My GP and a specialist have both diagnosed that it is stress related and can offer no help They say I could have to live with this condition as they have no cure.

For the past 24 hours now, my seventeen yr old son has been complaining of  what you would call a frothy faucet in his mouth. He must keep spitting it out or it causes him to gag. He also started to complain of a stomach ache and a sore throat all the way down to his stomach.  I would definetily  say he is immune surpressed due to some major lack of sleep. Other than that he is physically healthy.  I'm wondering if this might be good cause to see his GP??
