New Features: Photo Sharing & Privacy

Feb 18, 2008 11:39AM - 13 comments

We're pleased to announce 2 new features that are now available. Both of these features were requested heavily by our members in our "Improve MedHelp" survey as well as in our Suggestions forum.

1. Photo Sharing - In your profile, you can now upload as many photos as you'd like. Simply go to your "My MedHelp" and click the "Photos" tab. This is a great way to share multiple pictures with other members.

2. Privacy - We just added a new set of privacy features. You can now control who can see your "Posts" tab, your "Photos" tab and who can send your private messages, as well as invite you as a friend. To change your settings go to "My MedHelp" and click on the "Settings" tab. From there, click the "Privacy" link and make your adjustments. In addition, Journal Entries and Photos can also be adjusted at the journal/photo level.

Keep the suggestions coming and thanks for being a member of MedHelp!

The new "Privacy" options are not apparent to me, to control who can view "Post" and other tabs.

Can you please confirm that it's working properly, or clarify for my understanding?

Is it possible to set one's entire profile visible only to logged in Medhelp members; and invisible to the the public on the open web?

Thanks.

Can I select which "friends" can read my journal entries and trackers?  Or is it everyone friends self?

by swampcritter, Feb 03, 2009 07:19PM
This feature seems to have changed a little bit from when it was first released.

Posts are always public.

Photos, journals, and trackers can be limited to everyone, friends only, or me only. There aren't friendship levels, don't let someone be your friend unless you want them to see your friends only items.

Its worth also pointing out that if you have a public journal entry and you later mark it private, it will still exist in search engine caches. Search engines always prowl medhelp looking for new items.

Hi reader, Just like most other people, I too need to be able to talk through my concerns. Still recovering from craniotomy for excision of arteriovenous malformation. I am truly thankful for surviving the surgery and the anaesthetic as I am 67 years old with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Each day is a bonus and is used to the best of my ability.

Hi tilco. I feel that the scars you talk about are something similar to mine. Yes, they are physical but I confess that most of my scars are emotional. I will just have to accept myself for who and what I am. I have got to stop beating myself and blaming myself for my daily fears and anxieties. The events leading up to the neurosurgery were totally unexpected. The outcome is truly wonderful despite the scars.  Egolligos.

Med Help:
I have cirrorious of the liver; I recently did a ultra sound of my liver, kidney, and spleen.  When I was in the 4th grade back in the 60's I was basically on my death bed and to do the surgery of removin a button from my wind pipe I was given blood because I lost so much during surgery.  Back in those days the blood was not screen for anything.  So I have known about the Hep C for many many years I was in denial.  I accused the hospital of switching the blood and it wasn't my blood.
Now according to my PCP he read me the ultra sounds results my liver is 3 times it's size, the spleen is twice it's size; and he said there was something wrong with one of my kidneys but did not go into details on that.  He referred me to a different GI Doctor.  Because my GI doctor was taking his dear sweet time and not that interest in my condition.  I have not be able to see the new doctor yet BUT my question is  how much bigger can the liver get and how much bigger can the spleen.  I am a female 51 years old.  I am scared.  But the questions mean alot to me; why don't they remove the spleen I remember in the 60's my dad had a motorcycle wreck and he was rushed to the VA Hospital in Dallas and they removed his spleen.  I stay depressed alot.  My grown children don't seem to understand because they see me up walking; I tire very easily.  I have 3 stents in my heart and a cloggage that no specialists wants to touch they say I won;t make it off the table.  So I am a walking time bomb.  Please give me my answers. Please email me with what you know.

Sincerely
Lecy Ybarra

I HAVE COMPLIED WITH EVERYTHING THE STATE STIPULAITON STATES. NO ONE, NO ONE WILL HIRE ME. I AM DEVISTATED. THEY SAY THAT I AM TOO MUCH OF A LIABILITY, AND SOME EVEN SAY "I DON'T WANT ANOTHER ONE OF YOU PEOPLE WORKING HERE).WHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? I AM CLEAN AND SOBER. I AM SOO MESSED UP BECAUSR LIVING SOBER IS SOOOOOOOOOOOO HARD. I HAVE A SPONSOR, AND GO TO MANY MEETINGS. I LOVE BEING A NURSE, BUT BECAUSE I AM AN ADDICT I AM BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST.  THE ONLY OTHER SKILL I HAVE IS THAT I WAS A GREAT BARTENDER. NO NEED TO SAY MORE..........

Hi Scaredsober
This must be so hard for you! You have come through such a big battle and fought off your demons from the sounds of it. It would be so frustrating that you are now faced with these issues regarding your work. It is hard when you do so much to get your life back on track and society just does not seem to want to give you a fair go. Keep strong though. Don;t let anyone get to you. Show not only them, but yourself also that you will overcome these barriers .I wish I could help in some way but I can only hope that the path you are on at the moment will guide you to where you are supposed to shine. I know words are easy to say but keep sober, stay positve... from the sounds of it you have come so far and you should be proud of yourself. Hold your head high!
Good luck
