Hi. I'm Colleen and on coumadin. I was in a very bad car crash on Dec. 3 of this year. I'm still bruised from head to toe, but I feel fortunate to have made it out alive. I was broadsided by and SUV in the dark of night at 10pm. He HAD NO HEADLIGHTS ON!!! No headlights...yes you read that correctly. He broadsided me and propelled my car 200 ft from where I was hit. I landed in a ravine at a 45 degree angle. My lights went out on impact, airbags deployed on impact, total darkness into a ravine 200 ft away, scary. The ambulance came. I was very scared. A passerby came and I used his cell to call my husband. The ambulance crew said the other guy fared much better than I. I am on Coumadin for artificial heart valve and aneurysm surgery (congenital defect) which I had on Aug.27th of this year. So yes, I was very scared. The amb crew was great. The ER doc was good. They kept me laying on the stretcher sooooooooo long and I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis too! So I was in some pain but I sucked it up like I always do. The ER doc told me on discharge at 4 am, that I needed to be worried about "compartmental syndrome". I looked that up but forget now what it said. HE told me it was tightness, redness around the left knee where I was cut and the rt calf where I was bruised. My injuries entail: bump back of head, bruised lt shoulder with pain, purple rt breast with pain, well all of these are "with pain", bruised chest (no broken bones thank the LORD), bruised left middle finger, bruised abdomen, bruised hips (everything is purple), bruised rt heel (hurts to walk), bruised and contusion left knee, bruised and contusion rt calf. I think that's everything. I am Lucky, Fortunate, whatever you want to call it...but only Jesus got me thru this, only him.
My coumadin INR was 2.2 at the ER and earlier in the day at my coumadin clinic appt. it was 2.4 so not much of a change, even after the accident. They did CT SCAN of my head, neck, shoulders, torso, and legs, all with contrast injected into my cath on rt inner elbow. They did xrays of knees, chest, hips, neck, legs. See my profile for a picture of my car...totaled. It WAS a 2005 Nissan Sentra. I would buy another Nissan in a second. It protected me. Nissan and Jesus.
