Bump, or blister with puss like liquid in inner thigh (bikini line area)

Feb 21, 2008 - 34 comments

I'm wondering, I have experienced maybe once a year or once every two years a blister on my bikini like area (inner thigh) just one blister about the size of a dime, maybe a little bit smaller. It's pretty painful and it usually has a milky yellowish color. Can anyone tell me what this could be? The first time I got this blister was I believe when I was pregnant (2 years ago) and I remember my OBGYN asking me when I was about to get surgery to have the babies, if I got those blisters often. I told him not really. But since they went away we never mentioned it again. But now this blister came back and its the same place I got it last time. I'm a bit concerned. Could it be herpes?  Can anyone give me an idea of what it could be?

it is from shaving. i just started shaving everyday in my bikini area and as a result i have noticed two blisters on two seperate occasions in that area. they are clear bubbles filled with puss. i popped them and now they are flat and red. be sure to disinfect the area because they come from bacteria on the razor. so change razors everytime. so no it is not herpes..lol

well i agree with the person ahead of me but...
my mom got one on her foot and was screaming when her boyfriend was trying to pop it
but the thing is that it  wasnt on her thigh..it was on her big toe*
but she used these tips we found on the internet and now were waiting for the results:
1. wash hands and blister with warm water and soap
2. disinfect the blister and a needle with rubing alcahol
3. put a bandage on it when done with the rest of the steps

i hope that if you try these tips those mysterious little things will be gone for good*

I have a bump on my bikini line too. Various things I have read say it is probobaly an infected oil gland, and can be raised to the surface by pressing on it 30 minutes a day with a hot compress. It is not reccomended that you pop it, as it could tunnel under your skin. Nothing I have read points in the direction of Herpes. Most of it just says it is most likely an infection. If it is persistant, it is probobaly a cyst, and it really does need to be removed by a dermatologist, so it wont stop coming back. Dont be embarassed, many women seem to have this same issue.

I get bumps on my bikini line for a couple years now. Im a virgin so I don't think it could be an std of any sort. They don't hurt but im embarassed to get them checked out and I do believe that they are
from shaving. They do have a pus-like liquid in them. Im just curious.

Hi everyone!!! I seem to have the same problem over and over again... and I wanted to share it with you all. I shave my bikini line a lot during summer and last year for the first time I noticed a bump on my inner thigh next to the bikini line. I researched it online and found out it might be an ingrown hair. So I waited to see. It got bigger and bigger during a week and hard as a rock. HERE IS WHAT I DID. I took the tweezers small scissors and rubbing alcohol. I disinfected the area and the tweezers and I did a small incision on it. I did not feel any pain. It took me 2 hours of squeezing and cutting the skin around it and popping it till I got everything out. And at the end... I pulled out a small hair not even a quarter of an inch long... and UNDERNEATH it a lot of clear liquid.. As soon as I got it all out, I disinfected it again, applied triple antibiotic treatment and a bandaid on it. In 2 days it was all healed!!! So very important, make sure you have and use rubbing alcohol... That's the way I did it to save a trip to the dermatologist and save money... others need to have it removed in an office if it gets too worse. good luck!!!!

Hi... I have the same exact problem. I get this bump/blister filled with a puss-like liquid (like once or twice a year) on my inner thigh, right next to my bikini line (in the same place everytime). It seems to come around when I am completely stressed out. But I have also been shaving a lot down there during this summer. I have to say that I got laser down there like 6 years ago and when I did that, I never experienced this "thing". I remember the first time I got it (I was still a virgin...so it obviously wasn't an STD), I showed my grandmother and she said it was a boil...and then proceeded to pop it! It still worries me and it definately is super embarassing!

What someone said above about it being an oil gland makes complete sense, because oil gland do not go away unless removed! Does anyone know if I should go to the dermatologist to check it or to my primary doctor to get it checked?

If anyone has any  suggestions please let me know....

My 11-old-daughter has one of these---looks like a raised blister right next to her bikini line---I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow and will let you know what he says. It is very painful and red. It definitely has a watery, blister-like head.

Yes I have an infected small bump on my bikini line and it just will not go away! It has been there for months. I have invested in some seam free cotton underwear which has seemed to help the bump heal. I am hoping it will go away completely in a couple of weeks.

I first got one when i was pregnant with my first son. there was like 3 little yellowish blisters nest to my bikini line. That one went away like 5 days after it showed up. I didnt get any more till now and I'm pregnant with my second son. This one is fighting me to stay. My husband said that it looks like a rash more than anything from my shorts rubbing it? It hurts like heck and I really just want it to go away.. I'm calling the doc. tomorrow and trying to get it. I'll let you know what he says.. or some one who already knows can help me save money...

I seem to have the same problem as myac0706. Small blisters with watery puss like liquid inside. I have found that if I don't pop them they go away in a few days, maybe a week. But if I pop them, they become red sores that develop scabs and hurt like hell. The only thing that I can possibly think of is that I was using a very popular razor that you fix to your shower wall and change only the head out. I have to admit that those disposable heads are very expensive and I was trying to get all of the life that I could out them. I have come to the conclusion that the blisters must be from bacteria in the razor. Since it sat in my shower for more than a week in the moist air I can only assume that it had some nasty bacteria on it. I have since thrown out the reuasble razor and changed to disposable ones. I have been using a new razor every time I shave and have to say that I have seen a dramatic difference. This is not backed up by a doctor or research, it is simply my educated guess. Use fresh razors ladies, this is my advice....

Hello ladies, my name is walter and i just like most guys have the same exact symptons. Its not from shaving, ive done some research, and here is what i found.......Bacterial flora with good amd bad organisms. So long as the barrier is not breached all is fine. Meddle with it, or if the resistance is not good they gain entry and form folliculitis. If the infection goes deeper abcess forms. Especially groin areas, axilla, and nose carry more bacteria flora. Diabetics are more prone so do people with lesser immunity. An antibacterial soap many help in recurrent folliculitis. Mupurocin creme is good as an external application. A course of zinc and iron supplements does lot good. Severe types need internal antibiotic...... So dont pop them just buy the mupurocin creme or antibiotic soap. And goodluck hope i was help =)

I started getting these about 10/11 years ago. At the time I was still working and wearing panty hose. After I was no longer working (it was a very stressful job, plus I was always in chronic pain), I no longer got these until this summer, which was very hot and humid. They always start out the same and are always on the underwear line. I don't notice them until they begin to hurt, which is usually a day before they come to a head, or the day of. They are exactly like everyone describes; filled with pus and a lot of blood. I can't believe how much they bleed! I've always just popped them (at which time pain goes completely away), and then cleaned with rubbing alcohol. They will usually ooze for a couple of days and then heal, but this last one did not drain completely and came back quite quickly. The second time it cleared up. I've never gone to the doctor for them, but did discuss with my sister. She mentioned that she got them also. Any time I've have them I have not been in a relationship so I was pretty sure they weren't an STD, plus I haven't noticed any scarring. This site helped me figure out what they are and what causes them, and it makes sense. This site- http://dermatlas.med.jhmi.edu/derm/result.cfm?OutputSet=1&BO=AND&Diagnosis=63 - and the second picture confimed (for me anyway) that what they are is HIDRADENITIS SUPPURATIVA, as this is exactly what they look like. Another reader mentioned Folliculitis, but from finding pictures, at least in my case that doesn't appear to be what this is.

Hey, there seems to be a lot of comments about something similar to what i'm experiencing: I've been shaving a lot frequently as well as wearing thigh high tight fishnets and tight boy-short under (both of which are unusual for me). I've never experience a sore or blister on my inner thigh / bikini area before. A couple nights ago i had shaved, put on lotion, tight underwear and fishnets for halloween which i wore for a couple days (part of costume) and after 2 days i all of the sudden noticed a painful sore when i took off the underwear on my bikini line. The sore looked like a popped blister so i cleaned it and ignored it but within a day or so after its become scabbed over and is still painful. The scabs red, not brown and its not crusty but it looks like a crater. It doesn't itch or anything but i'm really nervous and too embarrassed . Any help would be great!

Wow I thought I was alone with this problem. I have been shaving for the last six years with no problems, but a week ago a day after I shaved my bikini area I found a few blisters, I thought it was the elastic from my underwear so I went commando very wrong thing to do the next morning I found a bump about the size of a dime on my labia came to find out that it was a boil. I read that blister and boils happen from ingrown hairs from shaving and to put heat on the boil to make it come to head so I did that the all night, the next day there it was ready to burst, but they say not to pop it but I was in so much pain that I did and yuck pus and blood came out like crazy I made sure to was it and but triple antibiotic ointment on it and bandage it and it's still healing but even thought I was very careful to wash it and put the ointment on it, last night I found another boil and another blister the other side closer to my vagina...they are very contagious so if u can go to the Doctors don't take care of it at home!

I am SO glad I finally Goggled this!  I am 28 and have been getting these things for like 5 years.  It seems there are 2 kinds of "bumps" we are getting - the ones that turn into knots & the ones that feel like blisters (and hurt like HELL!)  I asked my OB several years ago about one of the knotty ones & she said it was folliculitis.  But, I never get the blistery kind when I'm going to see her.  I KNOW these aren't from shaving because I don't shave my upper thighs (that leg hair is blond)  - but I wonder, is this a problem in overweight people, or just everybody?  I'm not really overweight, but have pretty thick thighs that always rub together.  They ARE SO embarrassing!!!!!  I have bad scars from popping the knotty ones, so if ur tempted, don't!!!  Would really like to know what these things are!!!!

I've been getting these awful things for years also, however I know what triggers mine, I don't know about the fellas, but certain panties with elastic exposed (around the leg openings), the pretty ones usually have a light threading over the elastic, therefore I try to stick to the not so pretty Cotton undies, elastic around the waistband is fine, but the leg openings should be completely covered with material to avoid another occurrence.

I used to get things like this all the time. It's possible it could be a staph infection. I cut myself shaving 2 years ago and ever since then I was getting huge blisters.. I would freak out and just throw a bandaid on it and hope it goes away and deal with it almost monthly and I find out 2 years later it was a staph infection in my body the whole time from that one little cut I got.

I get these all the time. Basically the hard knotted ones are boils. It is dangerous to lance them at home like one lady on here did. A boil is an infected hair follicle. And they can be very painful. My mother had them so bad on her inner thigh that she ended up with an abscess that had to be surgically removed. I get them and they just sit there for months before doing anything. But I have recently discovered by accident, that eating a tablespoon of raw honey everyday will help them come to a head without pain.and it helps keep new ones from forming.

An I grown hair looks like a pimple, a herpes lesion is almost like a blister I believe, or maybe like an itched mosquito bite when the skin breaks. either way you should get it seen to when it's active, especially if it shows up in the same place.
What ever tho outcome, you will be ok ❤️

I used bikini zone anti-bumps shave gel for my bikini area for the first time. I usually always shave my bikini area with no issues but after using the anti-bumps gel I've gotten about three blister like things and I'm worrying a lot about it. Can using that shaving gel be why I got these blister like things in my bikini area?

I am currently in nursing school and by the sounds of it none of these things are herpes! I get these quite often. It just started happening to me this year and it happens every month or every other month, so annoying! I've been to the doctor multiple times for it being tested for MRSA which was negative, and put on Bactrim a few times as well which didn't help. The one doctor I saw was positive it was folliculitis but that doesn't seem to be the case since I am still getting it with no relief from the antibiotic. She tried me on Mupirocin ointment and that didn't help either. She suggested laser hair removal and that is clearly not an option right now because I am a broke college student. Do not hesitate to go to the doctor! They see things like this all the time and it is completely normal for them. I suggest going to a dermatologist to get it taken care of. If I find out what it is I will let you know because we all deserve a cure from whatever this thing is!

DI had about a red bump that got to be about Nickle size right along my panty line like a this. It swelled up and was raised up about a Quarter inch. Very painful for a couple days. And Very Scary. I poked it when I saw a whitehead form it drained like a pimple including bloody looking liquid too. It did this for a couple days. It went down and wasn't as painful. But still red, big and painful. It scared me enough to go see the dermatologist. He said it is basically a pimple and had a big name for it. He said not to worry, nothing horrible, that  many people get these in this area a lot. He said to keep the area clean, which I do, but it happens to people anyway. Mine was infected at this point. He prescribed Cephalexin twice daily for 7 days. Just started antibiotics this morning, by tonight when I took the second dose it has decreased the redness already and soreness. I will be taking the full course of antibiotics, to totally heal this and keep infection from coming back. Hope this helps.  I have been using neosporin and a bandaid and will continue that until it heals. Doc says that is a good idea.

I just turned 16 and I have two of them on my bikini line. I have had them for about a year or so.. I have gone to the doctor and she told me that it was an ingrown hair or a cyst and I needed to take hot baths and use antibiotic soap.. what happens with mine is they will flatten out and then in another month or so it would puff up again and would be sore. it only hurts to touch it and right now my right one is puffed and my left one is flat. when I took hot baths it worked for getting the puss out it so I stopped but they are back to puffing again. it's embarrassing to wear a swimsuit and I plan to go to a dermatologist soon
