Here's an interesting tidbit for all you catophiles out there. Did you know cats are incredibly racist?
We tend to get a lot of them around here, have 12 right now until the "kitty truck" shows up and takes away the extras.
So, we've noticed that they tend to group up according to coloration. The greys all band together, the whites, the blacks...those that are mixed color tend to be more accepted if they've got one color dominant over the others.
The 1/2 and 1/2's tend to be impartial, not really forming a group...which in itself is a grouping.
This all started with what I call "The terror triplets". An all black mother cat with two all black daughters. These three have been here a while, and rule the room with an iron fist.
When a non-black cat comes in, they gang up on it and torment it relentlessly. Eventually we call a "detente" and try to calm things down.
I wonder, if the original black mother cat hadn't been so prejudiced, perhaps her two children wouldn't have learned this behavior as well? Perhaps this was the start of the whole cycle.
It's like having little kitty prison gangs running about the room and yard... we can't turn our back without one shanking the other for wearing colors.
And we can't disarm them, since we consider declawing inhumane...
We have an old mixed white/ black cat who just came into the room, more white than black. The old fellow has stolidly ignored all there attempts at baiting toward racial violence.
Perhaps a moment in history has arrived?
A true "Martin Luther King" among the cat world?
We shall see...he's already struck up an uneasy friendship with the dominant mostly black-some-white male.
This could be the beginning of racial harmony in the cat world!!!
