I have been off work since the end of november. I have high blood pressure. I also have "impaired blood glucose" ("you have diabetes" said my doctor) I was under some stress at work (which I have a hard time blaming it on) so my doctor laid me off. She filled out a form for some insurance and wrote "patient suffers from anxiety which contributes to hypertension". This is such a crock! It is now a running joke around my house because every one thinks they are a comedian! I am one of the least "anxious"people I know. My husband of 25 years laughed his head off at that one!
Things I have told my doctor about:
-Headaches-some I know are side effects from either the BP meds or just from the high BP itself, but I also have a (now) constant throb on the back right side of my head which increases with coughing, sneezing, exertion. Added to that, more often now than before, I also get sudden severe pains in my head which are quite debilitating - to the point where I hope I don't get one when I am driving. I experience some double vision in my right eye (1-2x/wk) sometimes accompanied by pain behind the eye, but not always. I was referred over a month ago for a CT scan, but haven't even gotten a date yet. Hubby is all for taking me to emerg!
-Increasing chest pressure - I personally think it is physical, not mental. And do not appreciate being told that my new BP med "has something in it for anxiety". And please explain to me how something that makes you crabby will help with anxiety??????? That really ticked me off, and to top it off, the medication makes me very very cranky, so I guess we'll be trying something new! I can hardly stand my self some days... how sad :(
History of heart disease and high bp on both sides of my family. I had an ECG (EKG?) done in october and it showed "something" and I was referred for a stress test and found out last week, the guy who does this is 4 - 5 months behind on his referrals. lovely.
-I have a really itchy (only way I know to describe the feeling because it in itself is not actually painful) spot about 3-4 inches below my belly button. My urinalysis shows blood in the urine, and I have had an ultrasound which showed nothing of concern. This itchy feeling is always there, sometimes feels like it moves. But then again in same spot. When I sit too long (chair, vehicle) it is accompanied by a dull pain to either side, and sometimes a "spreading hot" feeling on the right side more toward the groin. Wierd. I wonder if ultrasounds can miss stuff. I told my doctor I would keep telling her about it.
My doctor has only ever taken my blood pressure. She has never listened to my heart or physically examined me in any way. She just sends me for more bloodwork or tests.
I really feel she isn't really listening to me.
I agreed to stay on the crabby meds 2 more weeks because "sometimes the side effects go away after a month".And I was brought up you believe what your doc says. But I don't think they know everything either.
In regard to the diabetes, I have totally changed diet and have numbers consistently in the normal range to the point where my dietician asked "what did you do?"
I think I should find a new doctor. If I try to talk to her, I feel as though she's going to chalk it up to "anxiety". LMAO
Thanks for listening to me rant.
