February 2008 Newsletter

On the 14th of this month, we celebrated MedHelp's 14th anniversary. As we reflected on the years, it was incredible to see how much things have changed - from waiting for the first two simultaneous users to connecting with over 5.5 million users a month; from working with our first doctor to partnering with many of the best doctors and hospitals in the world; and from receiving our first post to having millions. Even though we have grown and changed a lot over the years, the thing that has remained constant is our commitment to "Finding Cures Together".

- "Finding" - we all have a need for and a right to good health information so that we can make better choices. We are committed to helping you find the information you need, whether it is by providing quality health information, sharing related experiences or getting answers to your questions.

- "Cures" - ultimately we are all striving to be healthy. Whether you have a chronic condition, a rare disease, a genetic disorder, or just a common cold, we are dedicated to helping find a cure by providing information, connecting people, providing access to the best doctors and hospitals, and providing researchers with information.

- "Together" - in the end the causes are too important and big to tackle alone. We need to involve patients, family, friends, doctors, researchers, and non-profit organizations. By sharing information, making connections, and raising awareness we will succeed.

As we celebrate our anniversary and plan for the coming year we want to hear from you. Please share your experiences using MedHelp and what we can do to serve you better by commenting below.

I would recommend a new  forum on epilepsy.  I've noticed you have such a wide variety of forums which help so many people but don't have a site didicated to this particular disease.  I'm sure so many would benefit from this topic.  Thank you, MB

I have recently found this site and found it to be really helpful.  I don't want to be calling the DRs all the time for questions that others can help me with.  CONGRATS & THANKS!

i have recently found this site and it is great as what i learn here i teach my support group and they appreciate my work but its unfortunate most of them cannot acess this site as i do it from a cyber where it is expensive wish we had one of our own with internet connection. There is so much we miss out htere as we are located in kitale in trans nzoia district in kenya.its ubfortunate that owing to the recent skirmishes most of my support group members have been left homeless and i am appealing to medhelp members and friends to donate what you can but we desperately need clothes for all and comforters please assit them as you know even before this they still were leading a pathetic life and i and those who have a good education are left with no choice but read websites gather info and impact the same to them as we the educators cannot afford the fees charged to train e.g home based care is 20000kshs vct counseloling and its roles 40000 please do what you can if you can sponsor some of the support group memmbers on home based care i will rejoice as it needs 25000 rer person and we are over 100. Think digest and give me a feed back. love you all. I am HIv positve and i wont exchange my status for any other diseasee.g cancer malaria, diabetes

For me, this site filled that gap, between being a breast cancer victim  to becoming a breast cancer fighter.  That time of waiting for biopsy results and Dr's appointments, and decision making.  This is where I spent my time venting my fears, anxieties, and frustrations before my surgery and recovery.  Now survivors have come out of the woodwork, my name having been entered into the system, I have a whole sisterhood of fellow fighters.  But this site was there for me in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep, when no doctors office was open to answer my one more question that I thought of after my visit.  There is nothing like having the "real deal", women who have been there, to help you through a difficult situation, whatever it may be.

Thanks to this site and to the people who have helped me.

Kelleen
