Ring Trouble

I recently found an old ring that belonged to my father and tried it on to see if it would fit. Well needless to say, it goes on much easier than it comes off. Its not cutting off my circulation or anything, but I don't fancy the thing and would like to get it off as soon as possible. I've tried warm water with soap, lotion, butter, and even shampoo and conditioner but nothing has worked, it keeps getting stuck at the same place.  If anyone has any ideas on how I could get this annoying thing off my hand I would greatly appreciate it. I'll make sure to try them as soon as the swelling goes down from my other attempts. I've made sure it has good circulation though, so please don't be concerned about that. My finger is still the same color and there is room enough that there is still a crack in between the base of my finger and the ring.
