My dad

Mar 02, 2008 11:59AM - 3 comments

I lost my dad on January 30th.  My birthday is on January 31.

I got to spend alot of time with my dad last year and the first of this year.  He was sick most of the time.  He had two emergency surgeries in May and June last year just 9 days apart.  He spent 2 months in the hospital.  He was so sick.

My dad was so strong.  He was on his own since he was 14 years old.  He had 11 brothers and sisters.  He and mom married at 16.  He started working as a driller on an oil rig when he was 18.  I was born when he was 19.

He started farming when he was 28 years old.  He was a great farmer.  I loved living on the farm.  My dad taught taught me how to work at a young age. I was such a tomboy.  I would rather work with my dad than to stay at home with my mom.  My dad taught me to drive when I was 12 years old.  I would drive this verrrry old grey pickup from one farm tto another to hoe or move pipe.  He taught me to drive a tractor.  Laater on I learned to work the module builder.

When I was little I wanted to grow up and marry my daddy.  He was my rock,  my oak tree.  He was so strong in body and mind and spirit.  He loved the lord jesus and raised us in the church.

I miss him so much.  I am so glad I spent the time with him that I did.  I lived 40 miles from him in a different town.  I would take him food to eat.  Help him with things he could not do for himself.  I am so glad I stayed with him in cccu.  I only left when I got the flu and was only gone 4 days.  I still regret leaving those 4 days.  I know he didnt need the flu on top of the pneumonia.

Your daddy sounds like a wonderful child of God.  God must have wanted him back badly.  I'm glad you stayed away while you were sick, so you didn't have to worry now, that your being there made him sicker.

Transitions are so hard for we, who are left behind.  I know your dad is happy and enjoying his existence now, back Home where he belongs, telling God and the angels what a lovely daughter he has.  Although they already know!

God bless you, Annette.

My father's family was from Texas. Dad joined the Navy and wound up stationed in CT alot, so eventually he and Mom settled here, they're retired now. I love talking to Dad about things that seem so foreign to me, the New England girl. His family's farm, of 1200 acres of cotton, swimming in the cow tank, things like that. I loved reading about your memories of your beloved father. Thank you for sharing such tender thoughts. Peace be with him at rest in our Lord's arms!

Lynette,

What a wonderful tribute to your dad.  He sounds like a wonderful man and he obviously raised a wonderful daughter.

Thank you for sharing such a meaningful and personal part of yourself.
