I've added a post to your response to SeattleRose.  I hope you'll get to read it and ask questions.  Being bipolar myself made it easier to set up a program for a child who was also bipolar.  I don't maneuver the computer very well, but it's worth looking for, I hope.  Does your son have a place where he can't hurt anything?  It makes an AMAZING difference.  It gives him the prescious gift of having a spot where he can be manic without any consequences.  It gives you the ability to ignore him without worrying (too much) about him.  If you read behavior modification theory, it's called extinctintion, and it's the most POWERFUL way to stop a behavior you don't want.  Blood chemistry is a definite issue, but my student learned to control a lot of his issues by learning that nothing he could do would shock or upset us, and that we would only act positively toward him.

However, he had to earn our positive attention by calming down.  Then we showered attention and love on him. I gave him lots of relaxation strategies and explained bipolar to him, and, gradually, he became able to step outside and control most of his outbursts.

I hope you'll read more on my other post.  It worked great for us.

Oh, tell me more about his interaction with the school.  That's my speciality.  I've been teaching in Special Ed for 20 years.
