Penis or Vagina...oh my....

Sep 02, 2012 - 25 comments

So it happened.  I knew it would, and it did.  After swimming Ryder and I were in the change room and he noticed that the little girl with her mommy next to us had different parts then he did.  He looked perplexed and well, he asked.  I was prepared and in a very matter of fact voice simply said..."well honey, boys have penis's and girls have vagina's". I did not want to make a big issue out of it and also wanted him to understand the proper names for body parts.  He seemed to accept this and didn't say another word...until....

We are out getting groceries the next day.  As usual he is in the front of the cart.  In the meat aisle he looks at a slightly older gentleman and says "you a boy?  you have penis?".  Someone shoot me now.  I smiled, turned red and moved on.  Until the next aisle where there was a little girl about his age also in a cart and he screams "mommy, that girl - she have 'gina?"   I nod to the mother, mumble something like "kids say the funniest things" and off we go.  Yep, he learns quickly....his new favorite activity is to identify boy or girl and then ask..."penis or "gina".  I am hoping this phase passes quickly.

Ha-ha!  When Anna saw a penis on a boy she told him he has a giant belly button  :)
Kids say such funny things at this age!

Ahh, but K, you were present when I was once again told "your son is Dennis the Menace"  Looks like him, acts like him.....ha.

It is funny, but also very very embarrassing.  You'd think I'd be used to it by now....he is such a little monkey!  I am trying to tell him that we shouldn't ask that, but it is so innocent so I really can't say much.

Yes I was ... But correct me if I'm wrong he was behaving perfectly when she said it, she just thought he looked like him (the one in the movie) and I started laughing loudly remembering all your stories, lol

I'm sure he was.  He really is a great kid.  And the things he does are more funny then misbehaving.  I guess everytime I hear the comparison to Dennis the Menace I think about the airport.  He just cracks me up most of the time....or embarrasses me for a minute...or

Welcome to motherhood!!!!

OMG Ryder is too much!!! TOO MUCH!!! This and the airport as by far my favorite classic Ryder moments :)

So funny.  My kids probably still don't use the word 'gina' yet.  I just told them that girls have 'girl parts'.  Ha.  Oh well.  I just couldn't handle THAT teaching  moment at the time it came about.

Ryder cracks me up!!

Oh he is always perfectly behaved, just a normal busy boy :) "look kellie, look... I runnin" too cute :)

I really don't think he get's it even though he says the word.  He could just as easily be saying "you girl - you got arm?" know what I mean?  Lol, it is pretty funny.  Fortunately he seems bored with it already or he's forgotten...this is a good thing.

That is funny stuff.  You never know what will come out of a kids mouth.  Bless em all.

I had been out running errands.  I pulled into the driveway and did a few real quick chores like bringing the trash can back up and hit the steps.  As I did, the front door flew open and there is my little buddy, with this big excited look on his face.  "Daddy!  Daddy!  Daddy!!!!  Guess what?", he says as he latches on to my leg.  I pat him on the head and say, "Oh my gosh!  What buddy?"

He looks me dead in the eye and says, "Mommy doesn't have a penis" and then runs off. I politely said thanks and stood there wondering how that all came about.

Turns out, the baby had fallen asleep and that was my wife's cue to take a quick shower.  When I pulled in the drive, she had hopped out of the shower and was grabbing a towel when our oldest busted into the bathroom to tell mommy that daddy was home and he caught mommy, in all of her glory...... (I bet that was the real funny part...)  I could just see her panic, and I can still imagine his big old blue eyes and the look on his face when he pointed and said, "What's that?"

That is so cute.
And, he's only stating the obvious so no one should to get too uptight about it.
