question

So I went to the doctor to change my depression medication and got test done and finally found out my thyroid testing came back is my levels are sooo low.All I could do was cry.And I cried because my Ob caouldn't seem to find why I kept misscarrying and I think we found the reason. So what's the next step? I dont really know but I must admit Im scared.Been praying for a baby for the longest and thats all I want at this point but the more test I get done, the moreI find out seem like it.Did anyone else have a thyroid problem? What did they do to treat it?Were you ttc?Did you get your lil one? So many questions...

So sorry you are dealing with this, but be encouraged, low thyroid is a pretty easy fix! You will be prescribed Synthroid or a generic version of it, OR you can request they prescribe Armour thyroid. Synthroid is the synthetic version of the thyroid hormone, and Armour is derived from the thyroid glands of pigs (gross I know). Armour works so much better for me though. It may take a few months to get your levels right, but once you do you will feel much better! Low thyroid can cause so many issues like depression and weight gain, and unfortunately infertility. I've had low thyroid since I was a child, but PCOS was the reason for my infertility. I got 2 lil ones with fertility treatment :) My thyroid levels dropped after birth and hurt my milk supply, but once I raised my dose and switched back to Armour from Synthroid, my supply recovered and I'm still nursing both babies 10 months later :)

What was your tsh? Actually this is good news since now you know what is preventing you from ovulating! Once you get your thyroid working things will come together.

I agree with Jenna. The natural dessicated thyroid is the best. It has all of the thyroid hormones the body needs (T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin), not just T4 which is what Synthroid has. In the early twentieth century when women had trouble conceiving and there was no obvious other cause, they were given Armour Thyroid and then were able to be successful. Sometimes I don't understand how medicine has gone backwards from that time. Most doctors just ignore the thyroid all together or say that you're normal when you're not. Women are left to struggle for years when there is an inexpensive and safe treatment that works.

Any way, my point is if you can get on either Armour Thyroid OR NatureThroid, your thyroid will be doing great in no time! And your TTC'ing should go alot better and hopefully you will never have a m/c ever again! There is a book by Dr. Broda Barnes that I think explains all that about women with a history of infertility or miscarriage taking Armour and being successful. I'll try to find the name. Or maybe Risa can remind me. I think she has the book. Just hang in there! At least something was found and there is a great treatment for it! Keep us posted! Hugs!!!

yep, that's too high (meaning your thyroid levels are too low). I feel best when my TSH drops to around 1. Is your doctor willing to put you on Armour? Some doctors are resistant because they think the synthetic is better, which I can say from experience is just not true!
